What would be a good price for a used xcr-m .308 with a vortex viper pst 4-16*50 scope and some other little mods. Guy is asking 3k I was thinking that seems steep for a used gun anyone know what a good price might be. I guy I know buys and sells a lot and figures you should take 40% off new price to get a good deal so if he had 4K into it 4000*40% is 1600$ so the price should be around 2400$ I was thinking let me know how you feel thanks.

Pay what you think it's worth. The "market" value is irrelevant as long as you are happy. I think a 40% price drop is a little unrealistic unless it's in super rough shape

Espesially if it only has a few hundred rounds on it. Guns like are the XCR are designed to have thousands of rounds go through them. I think your asking for too much. I would even go so far to say your low balling the seller.

If you want an XCR at 40% reduction, I have your rifle.
It's had >18,000 rounds through it, but still very much lnib...

Where shall I ship it?

;)

The rifle itself is at least $3000 new plus tax at 10% so 3300, and there is no escaping the tax you have to add it in when comparing. Now the optics and rings at least another 1000 plus tax so $1100. He wants 3000 for what it would cost you AT LEAST 4400 to acquire, sounds like a great deal to me. People can compare used to retail all they want but remember, it's retail plus tax.

Thanks I honestly didn't know where to start that's why I asked so it's not a bad deal for 3000 just seemed steep but I guess I didn't think they would hold that much value I don't deal with used guns. Thanks

A retailer will offer 40% for your rifle. I know a retailer (Site sponsor so I won't name the retailer) that offered my friend $300 for his Remington 700p. It had 20 rounds through it (5 rounds of blue blue, 5 rounds of Hornady match, 5 rounds of SMKs, and 5 rounds of Remington match). I saw the rifle, it was mint. $300.

Lessons learned, sell on EE or other private venue, avoid selling it to a shop if at all possible.

I understand that the shop needs to make money as well, and their primary source of income is selling BNIB guns that are shipped to them from the wholesaler/distributor, but $300 for a rifle that retails for at least $1,200 is slightly nuts.

Firearms go on sale for 25-30% of retail at the stores brand new if you think a used unknown to you still in production rifle only deprecated 10% from new your nuts and if your province charges you a sales tax not my problem. There are lemon/abused firearms out there don't be a suckered.

No taxes are not your problem but who cares, its reality that all provinces charge it in some form or another. So its not my problem you don't want to recognize that. Furthermore to suggest every firearm will go on sale for 25-30% off is nuts. Some firearms "may" but will it be the one you want? will there be more than one or two available? and when? 2 months from now, 8 months? Bottom line is a quality lightly used gun at slightly below retail price is a FAIR deal. You get it right away, tax free and the price would been ln line with a more common but certainly not guaranteed 10% off sale.
Dont forget most rifles optics etc went up 30% in the last few months, the cheap prices ship has sailed, get on board.

How can you tell if it's a newer gen ?
Does it have the keymod front end? If not, It's old

I personally would not pay more than 50% of what they sold for new if it is not a keymod version with light barrel and that would be my top dollar for a very low round count unit.

A retailer in my area has a yearly sale and every firearm goes for 30% off. That is for in stock on the shelf firearms only though, no ordering something different or rain-checks.
To me a used XCR-M in mint shape is $2500 or less and a used Vortex Viper PST is $800 or less unless it's FFP then add $200. I don't personally think FFP is worth $200 more but that's about how much more they sell for so what do I know :p
In my mind, if I'm going to pay close to retail price for a used rifle I may as well buy a new one that I know has zero rounds and hasn't been messed with by someone that may not have a clue what they're doing.

If I was to sell a used rifle for 50% off it would have been one that fell in the river and went over the waterfalls. I think 30-40% off is fair if it's been well used but that's the thing with a used rifle. How do you verify that what the seller is saying is accurate? I've seen EE posts where the seller says BNIB and has 100 rounds through it in the same line. I guess he doesn't know what BNIB means. It's also funny to me when someone posts that their AR has 330 (or how ever many rounds) as an exact number. If you know how many rounds exactly your AR or pistol has through it you're not having enough fun with it or it's your only firearm. My quotes are usually a guess when it comes to a semi auto fun rifle, I take three or four rifles with me to the range and just play with them all, I don't count, I don't care to count because it doesn't matter on a rifle that has a barrel designed for 20000 rounds on full auto. It makes no difference if it has 500 or 2000 through it, it's still got more life in it than I'll use and if I ever do notice it's accuracy or reliability declining I replace the barrel or whatever parts are worn.

Thanks, but I was talking about my opinion on the rifle and criteria I posted.

I did not say this applied to every gun I look at buying.

I have sold BNIB rifles at 50% off of what I paid, The MVP patrol I bought for example. Just because I got hosed with a crappy product by Mossberg doesn't mean I can have a clear conscience passing that on to someone else at almost full retail
