Hi All,

It seems I only post these days when I've got a very serious question...

I'm going to be cashing in some stock options (and most of it's gonna end up going towards a down-payment on a condo). I'm gonna end up with about $2000 disposable.

So the question is, should I buy a Tavor or an XCR? (Yes, I know I'm gonna end up spending more then that.)

Either one, I'd go with no-restricted and probably pick up a bunch of AR Pistyol 10-rd mags.

Thanks in advance for weighing in...

Homesick, I think Tavor is better choice. I had a chance to fire one and it is great rifle. Never shot XCR so I cannot comment. But then again comparing the two - Tavor is actual rifle that is in service somewhere while XCR remains experimental that never made it to active duty.

Bullup is pretty neat-o, I generally DO go for the AR type, but threw up on the xcr foldout looking stock. Though it really prob isn't a foldout, I hate foldout's/wannabe foldout. Worse than scoped lever actions!

I vote tavor. Cool beans. I'll bet...you don't own a norinco of any kind, do you?

XCR sorta looks like the love child of AR and AK to me. A happy median for those stubborn anti-everything eastern block countries.

Actually several Police Departments in the US have adopted the rifle. But yes no military has.

As for my pick. Depends on what you plan on doing with the rifle. I own both so I kinda know what best features are on each rifle. The overall length of the the XCR is a drawback as is its 18.6" HBAR barrel makes the thing seriously front heavy. The lack of a good optic is the Tavors' weakness. If you can get a rail for the Tavor I would choose it over the XCR. If not the XCR is my pick.

For scale here is a pic of my Tavor and XCR plus my Swiss arms Classic Green Carbine. Carbine is restricted though.

True dat...

My SKS is Yuogslavian and my 1911 is a SS Kimber...

Anyone shot both...or even better, any lefty shot both?

(I Shoot Lefty)

Yes I thought so ... the Tavor can be fitted with a left hand bolt. Otherwise a bullpup might be tough for a lefty.

Why not pm me and you can come to the range and shoot mine?

Sometimes I have remind myself that these 2 rifles are unrestricted.. they look way too badass to be unrestricted... no complaints. :).

Tavor....hands down.
I desperately wanted to like the XCR, but with the non-restricted barrel, it is much too front heavy for my liking.
The trigger on the Tavor can be made to be a tolerable weight, (see stickie on this) and the ergonomics are great.
The Meprolight sight blows, but I managed to find a Tavor with a Picatinny rail on it...still waiting on the 'official' version from the distributor.

Just to be clear, I really like my XCR. That said, I think it sucks...
XCR is a very cool toy. Only a toy.
My Tavor is the best handling gun I've seen, and has been 100% reliable through over 4500 rounds so far. Everyone seems to have a beef with the Mepro, but I don't mind it. (Of course I'll change it when I get my rail)
If I knew then what I know now I would have spent my XCR money on a few thousand extra rounds for the Tavor.

are you ####ting me!?

A toy that shoots the same ammo,.just as accurate,..and compatible with lots of AR accessories. I would like to see someone use that in 3 gun and do well.

I have an XCR and love it (besides being front heavy, due to 18.6" Hbar)

I want a Tavor, but I would only buy one without the mepro. I will end up buying the type 97 for 850, can't go wrong there.

Let's not forget that the XCR is designed as a multi-caliber originally made to compete with the FN SCAR. That barrel swaps out real quick, one screw.

If we ever get the 6.5 grendel conversions up here it would make for a nice mediumsized-game, hunter.

But again with such a new gun how do you argue the fact that the Tavor is in current use in so many countries.

Sell off more stock, buy both.:D

I'll go against the grain... I would get the XCR for the traditionalist inside me (appearances + mag release + fear of a "KB" not going off on my cheek).

I also like the fact that there is supposed to be barrel conversion kits coming from Wolverine :)

With that said, the Tavor is hot! ;)
