Xcr v. Mr1

Oh no, I'm throwing in the towel.
Common sense and facts have no place in conversations about the xcr's accuracy.
No no! Don't stop. With all your ability to read, and I'm sure you've tested all kinds of rifles. Please lay it out for us. After all the one who waves the BS flag should let us know what the real story is. Come on dude. Let's hear what you have to say when it comes to the relativity of the topic. You da man, smart guy. Let's hear about all the stuff you read. Who are you again?

Look, let's just end this argument by saying that most black rifles are not going to be sub-MOA for the vast majority of us - regardless of make, model, etc. We're just not that good. For those that are really good, I think 1.0 MOA is achievable on a consistent basis (maybe even the occasional sub-MOA for those exceptional shooters). For the rest of us, I think a realistic expectation is probably in the 1.5-2.0 MOA range.

Yes, there are some black rifles that are inherently more accurate. The truth is that all these rifles (without exception) are more accurate than any of us are capable of. So in the end it really comes down to where you plan or need to shoot, what the application is (plinking, hunting or competition) and what your budget is (not just for the base firearm, but any upgrades, optics, gear, etc.)

I don't think the MR1 is necessarily any more accurate than the XCR, and the XCR certainly isn't the most accurate black rifle out there. But unless you're prepared to shell out close to $4k - I think the question and point is really moot. With the approximate -$800 savings that the MR1 yields, you're trading that for the loss of a folding stock, multi-caliber options, full-length rails, a lot of AR-accessoriable options and last but not least, resale value.

The last item is probably the most important, because if you don't like your XCR - you can probably have a buyer for it in under a week. Your MR1, well... you might be stuck with it for a while longer.

Darkstang is a certified armorer, his builds are solid, straight shooting and reliable. I wouldnt hesitate to recomend him to anyone who wants an AR15 built, modified or fixed, he is the go to guy for ARs!

I have to politely jump in here, Blaxsun with a trader rating of 678 is certainly a very honest person... Now myself with my 3 MR-1 and a trader rating of 2 can't match to this gentleman, but i have to say that many groups were sub half moa from my Benelli's and since i joined CGN 18 month ago ,i have received 11 personnals messages from members inquiering if i would be interrested to sell one of my Benelli, i intend no disrespect with this comment, just my 0.02 ... JP.

Well put. That makes total sense.
But your horrible. You bad instigator you. Lol!
My appologies to the rest of you. Thanks for the kind words from Mr. SGD.

Newbie to rifles and guns in general. After getting comfortable with my Jericho 9mm, I would like to buy a nonrestricted black rifle.. And so far have narrowed my choices to the Benneli Mr1 and the Xcr.
Advice of those in the know would be greatly appreciated (and I'm not quite ready to spend the $ on a Swissarms.)
Wow Roodog I bet you thought you asked a simple question eh? To get back to your original question it depends on what you plan on doing with your rifle? I myself am rather new to the whole black rifle thing and don’t use them for my work or in competition. Presently own a Binelli MR1 and recently sold my XCR. I don’t think of my MR1 as a true “Black Rifle” rather more of a semi-auto hunting rifle that accepts AR magazines. For me the MR1 has been a great rifle and is quite reliable but selling my XCR was a big mistake. It’s no one thing I just enjoyed shooting my XCR more. Also the styling of the MR1 is a bit “Spaceman Spiff” for me but I don’t much care as long as it does its job. The one big MR1 issue is mounting an optic on the rifle well leaving the back iron sight fitted. The drop of the butt stock coupled with the need to use high rings to get the scope above the back sight means you ether shoot with your chin resting on the stock or fit some type of cheek-piece. This is what I ended up doing:

This setup puts my eye in-line with the scope but isn’t too high to use the irons.
The bottom line for me though is if I hadn’t needed the loot when I sold my XCR I’d still have it.

Very impressive.
Is the cheek piece stock? It's a nice addition to the scope.

No it’s not a Binelli part. It came off of a Choat “Ultimate Sniper” stock. It needed a bit of sanding on the inside to fit it and is still a bit wide for the stock at the bottom but it work swell for me and when removed leaves one small hole in the stock. Additionally the kit I bought (incidentally off of the EE) also came with the high cheek piece as well.

Half the fun is making it your own. It's a nice look too.

None taken. If you read up a few posts you'll note that I pointed out that you're a terrific shot (certainly better than me, in any event...!) As I said, for most of us I think 1-2 MOA is realistic for most of these black rifles. I haven't had my FS2000 out this summer yet, so I'll be curious to see what it does with some RUAG or match ammo.

That's great to know for when I screw something up royally tinkering around with my AR builds. ;)

I try to keep the loctite to a bare minimum... ;)

IMHO, that's where Benelli really screwed up on the design. A full length top rail like the CX4 Storm and a standard AR15 stock/tube setup with grip would've made this a really interesting offering (especially for the price).

Very interesting theory on the AR stock. I wonder if that will be the next NEA project? They did kinda make it a little unfriendly for accessories, but with all the machine shop guys we have, someone will do something.

I think they did what they did to keep it Kalifornia legal.

I'm not 100% sure on this but wasn't the MR1 once made by Beretta and called the RX4? Originally a family member to the PX4 and the CX4. I think they sold off the rights to Benelli so that they could put more money and energy into the ARX160 which they could get a military contract on. That is the word I've heard on the street, anyways. Does anyone know for sure on that account? If I can find an original picture of the Rx4 ill post it.

It's the same stock that's on the Benelli M4, so I have to think that's more than a passing coincidence as well... Here's what it should've looked like...

And I mean, it does - minus the different pistol grip, full-length top rail and front tri-rail as standard.

Yes ^. Pretty sure it was something along those lines, yeah. I still want the ARX-160...

Family day with my XCR-L 5.56mm :)
My Daughter, myself and Father...
We were shooting out around 130m at a paper target and piece of 1/2" thick steel plate, 3"wide x 8"long/high. My daughter hit it twice out of 5rds..I mixed my shooting, 5 paper standing, 5 at steel kneeling only one hit and prone on elbows at paper again because the grass was too long so using my mag as a monopod was not an option.

I had no bench set-up for a grouping test but I would estimate on that steel plate off of the 4x4 we were managing roughly 6-8" groups with quick shots...

Sweet 4x4.
Same colour XCR as mine.

As a point of interest Benelli is actually owned by Beretta along with Sako, Tikka, Stoger and a few other gun makers.
