Well got to fire my brand new XD-40 this weekend. I used it in ESP class at the Pembroke Outdoor Sportsmans club IDPA shoot on Sat. In one word AWESOME :dancingbanana: I came in 4th in ESP with a gun I had never fired before starting the match. My son then used it the next day in his first ever IDPA competion and at 14 years old actually took my advice and went slow and got his hits. He missed very little and while slow was safe and had a blast. We used the included XD Gear holster and mag pouch and they worked fairly well. All in all we went through 250 rounds this weekend without one stoppage and overall I am extremely impressed with this pistol.

I love my XD40. I have approx 6000 rounds (mostly lead reloads) through it and this gun keeps on ticking with no problems to date.

You've just saved yourself a world of frustration, it's the best out there
in it's class. I'm well over 6k on mine, and it still looks new. Congrats!!!

I have not tried deliberate shooting at 25 yards yet do could not tell you. The grip is very similar in feel to my 1911. The trigger reach is much shorter however on the XD. It also feels less clunky then a P226 that I have fired.

Hope this helps

I find with my big mitts the hogue wrap grip is perfect, sure makes a positive
grip every time. A few of the guy's here (me included) have become
very good at hitting the 200M gong laying down.

Do you plan to reload for it?

I was checking out a Springfield XD but was talked out of it due to an supposed weakness in the palm safety. I was told they are all plastic and large number of the first ones out had been breaking, any truth to this?

Not that i've seen. And call Wolverine if you need parts, John is a dealer.
I've also had no rust, or any finish problems. I don't notice the grip safety
at all, since I have big mitts. For those with a small to x-small hands (wittman),
they may notice a problem.

The "palm" safety that you refer to is correctly called a Grip Safety. On the XD pistol, it's made of STEEL, not plastic. The Grip Safety on an XD pistol is not an issue.
JOOC, who "talked you out of it"? If it was the guy behind the counter he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I was talking with a guy at Epps, he said they had a few returned. Maybe he was just trying to talk me into springing for the Sig Blackwater they had.

My apologies for the errors with the nomenclature, I'm still working on my gun vocabulary.

Yes I am planning on reloading for it. I reload for my 1911 already just need to get dies and I am in business. I have heard a lot of good stuff about the XD and a friend who has fired thousands of rounds through his 4 year old one has never had a problem.

I have had my XD40 since 2002, and it still works great after 40000+ rounds... I did get it "Parkerized" due to holster wear. I have had no issues with any the "Grip Safety" You do not know it is even there.

I want to replace all the springs, preventive maintenance. I also have a XD45 on order.
