Xm 177 flashhider

Did you ever receive them flashhiders from brownells

Nope, the order was cancelled.

Buy it. Ship it to Clay's exporter. Clay at Prophet has really reasonable prices on exported parts. He only charged me $10+GST on a FH.

Good to know, I hadn't thought of that option. Might revisit this project, been busy with other things lately.

It's not a crack, but a fail in a weld. If you watch the video on the Griffin page you will see they mention that they replicated the original weld that was used to put the 2 parts together in the original device. Still not acceptable for it to fail. I have over 500 rds through mine and so far so good. In the pic I attached the tip of the pencil is at the weld which is visible to the eye but not so much in the pic (yes the date is wrong). Hopefully Griffin will step up for those that have a problem.

I have drawings of the original and it was never welded where the Griffin Armament ones were. In the original there is a baffle section and then the shroud or outer housing. The originals were welded at the top of housing. You can see the weld is right where his thumb is.

CTC supplies just refunded my money for the faulty FH, They even paid for the shipping. It wasn't CTC supplies fault, they were top notch, just a poor product from Griffin Araments

Good to hear they stood behind it. Not a lot of suppliers would of.

I have one that I haven't mounted yet and hope I don't have the same problem as others.

CTC Supplies are good guys, always had great luck with them. It's really sad to see Griffin Armament have these problems as they make good flash hiders and Cans from everything I've heard. Welding shouldn't be a big deal for them.... But looking at the picture of the 'original' style; it would seem that the original style having the weld at the back and likely supported underneath would be a way stronger system of joining it.

Colt's was made from steel as well instead of stainless steel which is a little harder to weld and must go through different processes to keep it from being brittle.

I would think it is a combination of a poor weld and poor placement of the weld due to pressure cycles of expanding gases in the flash hider housing causing the weld to fatigue and break.

The flash hider has a nice fit and finish made from quality materials so hopefully they can make a change or two and come back swinging. Retro builders need products like these and it would be a shame for them to go away.
