Ordered a Savage 12BVSS in .223 yesterday on my lunch break :D I had planned on waiting a bit longer to make my decision between that, a Rem XR-100, and maybe the savage low profile varmint gun. But, the salesman (and owner of the store, and a major organizer in the local gun club, and an excellent long range shooter...) used reason and logic to sway me away from the XR-100 for my first long range gun (not because he doesn't like the XR-100, he does). His points were that .223 is easier for a bigger to reload because there is alot more info out there on it, and since I would be using that caliber then the savage 1:9 barrel beats out the 1:12 on the Rem for heavier bullets. Then it was just a coin toss between the 2 savage's, so I went with the 12BVSS cause I think it will be more comfortable shooting prone from a bipod.

Probably top it with a 3200 10X.....after I wait another 2 weeks for a paycheck  :( Guess impluse buying isn't wallet friendly!

meh. You need to get both ;) As I recall, both of mine were impulse buys, too.

Actually, I much prefer my Savage to my Remington. One of these days, I'll replace the XR-100 with a Cooper :)

Good for you ClanyO I have researched my rifle and scope and all the rest that goes with it and to tell you the truth it is driving me nuts lol:p
Impulse buying the way to go:D

Impluse X2.

I ordered it yesterday thinking that it would be several weeks (like the last gun I had to have ordered through this store) before it arrived, when I would have another paycheck in the bank. Well, today at lunch I got a call informing me that I had a parcel

So.....Yup have my new toy today! My girlfriend is SUPER excited!! (heh k that's a lie :( ) Sadly, I still have to wait for payday for bases, rings, and a scope...thinking of a busnell 3200 10X still.

Now for a question (I ask alot of these  ): This rifle comes with pillars, but not bedded otherwise. I fully understand the concept of bedding the action, and have done so on my .22 MkII BV with success, but I am a bit nervous with this new rifle which is the most I have invested in a gun (thus far). Other then Acra-glass, which I have heard mixed reviews from, what other bedding materials are out there, and how do I keep it from spilling over into places I don't want it? I used JB weld and modelling clay when I did my .22, and I learned a few things not to do in the future, but any advice is always appreciated :)

Thanks!!
