Hey guys, I've recently sold a custom ruger 10/22 that I built because of all this hype ive been hearing about the NS522 magic pew pew stick that everyone is frenzying over... and I must say, it is 100% one of the best firearm related purchases I've ever done to date.

Here's some groups out of my bone stock NS522, literally took it out of the box, cleaned it, put a scope on it and shot it.

this one is from 25m, on an ammo testing day, each one of the points on the cross was an aiming marker, so some of them have up to 5 different groups shot in one "+"

so far it seems to like RWS Rifle match the best, Eley Team is kind of weird out of this gun, i would get 4 of 5 in the same hole and then 1 flier, almost every time.

SK standard and Eley practice are a pretty close second.

and CCI blazers are the best of the economy .22 loads.

heres a couple more of the RWS rifle match at 25m:

and another, same ammo:

now heres my question... the barrel isnt even free floated, nor the stock pillar bedded yet, should i leave it as is? i dont see how free floating or pillar bedding can do any harm.........

next up, revisiting the Eley team ammo to see if the flier is caused by my crappy shooting, or if its actually the gun.

and also some 50M groups with the premium ammo, and maybe the CCI blazer just for a comparison.

ps: I don't know if they're all like this, but the factory trigger on mine is ALMOST as crisp and light as a Tikka T3 :| this can't be normal?

Stay tuned! :d

That's AWESOME and, now I really can't wait until mine shows up! :ar15:

As for whether or not to tweak it, if you have the time, why not!

Cheers
Jay

+1 for the SK standard and Eley practice, I haven't tried rws,but at 50 yards this thing will have all 5 touching, I haven't done anything either but plan to do all the mods father did on his and am looking for a set of reasonbly priced peep sights to put on it!

There are many positive reviews on the accuracy of these inexpensive bolts.
IMO….a little rough around the edges and they could have paid more attention cutting out the bolt notch in the stock.

The stock was cut for a different shape bolt handle before they put the action in the stock. The stock that the 522 sold in Canada comes with was originally cut for the "spoon" shaped bolt handle of the Norinco EM-332. The NS522 as imported to the US was a barrelled action only. Keng's stocked the barrelled actions in the US, using Bishop stocks. Years later, it apppears that CanAmmo stuck the remaining 522 barrelled actions into the 332 stock.

will head to the range sometime this week, hopefully we'll get a nice sunny day here!

also, where would i go to get a new stock made for one of these? anyone know who does custom inletting for stock blanks here in Canada?

edit: currently looking into setting up a group buy for properly fitting stocks for NS522! keep you guys posted when i have more info!

A guy in the US makes stocks for them...not overly expensive but not Chinese priced either lol

He could be talking about Don Stith, he quoted me $275 for a bench rest style stock, im hoping the canadian supplier can get them to us for much cheaper, and id much prefer a more tactical-ish style stock (think Mcmillan A5 or Manners MCS T4) over a bench rest stock..

I sanded down mine, filled in the oversized notch with a block of wood and epoxied it in,sanded it smooth then round filed in the right sized notch.Much improved.

Gave the whole stock 3 costs of epoxy then spray painted it green with rustoleum paint, but I'm not sure of the adhesion yet,I think I might take that off and apply rustoleums'epoxy appliance paint'which is supposed to be the toughest spray paint available, although it only comes in gloss black, white or beige.I really like natural finished wood gunstocks but since this was softwood, traditional finishes wasn't an option and the advantage of paint is its easy to refinish, just give it another shot and it's like new again

Interested in where this stock buy goes.

Kengs has plenty of NOS Turkish walnut stocks for $200 or so + shipping. Guess they were left over from when they didn't get the last order due to the ban....

These are the stocks im currently trying to set up a group buy for, the guy said we can mix and match other styles of stocks in the group buy as well if you guys want a different one. check out the website mcrstactical.com and see which style you want best and ill see if he can inlet it for the NS522, but i think this one looks the coolest, it'll be like a mini Mcmillan A5 :D

currently still working out pricing with him.

stocks made of wood, available in walnut, maple or cherry. you can have the option of buying the stock finished/ painted, or unfinished at a discounted price and you can apply whatever finish on it you want yourself.
