sxs 12ga. First shot would be one of those dragons breath flamethrower rounds to blind/singe/dissorient and generally turn a good day bad for tigger. Second barrel would have some less than lethal rubber balls to humilliate it further. If it still wants to attack, then he deserves 240lbs of rare Scottish tartare.

The intelligence system introduced by Ibbotson was working splendidly. Under this system of cash rewards, on a graduated scale, were paid for information about all kills in the area in which the man-eater was operating. These rewards, starting with two rupees for a goat and working up to twenty rupees for a human being, were keenly contested for, and so ensured our receiving information about all kills in the shortest time possible."

I'm not doubting that Tigers were and still are living off a steady diet of people but in countries where actual populations are unknown and where poverty is rampant one wonders if reporting maneaters was a second income.

"I had an Uncle Bill, tiger got him last week."
"Thanks, here's your 2 rupees. So what's that, 10 uncles this year?"
"yep, only got 50 left."

I don't know if this has been posted but it's about lions and leopards but I bet it's the same with tigers, shotguns are out, you need 2250fps to stun the cat or else you're hoping for organ damage and he'll be on top of you before he dies from that!

"A .303 with good bullets is still a better weapon for dealing with a wounded lion than any shotgun. As noted in my article on game toughness, a bullet needs to be travelling at over 2250fp to exploit a cat's susceptibility to shock. No shotgun load achieves this and you therefore have to rely on killing the animal by destroying organs. With a perforated heart a lion can still move for up to 8 seconds - at 15+ metres a second: perfect medicine in a close quarters confrontation. I wouldn't trust even a Breneke slug to get through the chest muscles on a charging lion at any but point blank range. Unmarked hunters are those who do not let anything nasty get anywhere near point blank range until after it has been skinned.

I don't think velocity alone is a good indicator of damage, kinetic energy is

12 Gauge Slug = 2250 ft*lbs
308 = 2468 ft*lbs
30.06 = 2701 ft*lbs

I think a 12 Gauge slug at close range would be extremely deadly.

Many people used smallbore's such as the .22 Savage Highpower and .250-3000 on Tigers in India. This was in the time when 2000 fps was considered fast. Apparently only a few were killed while attempting it. The small caliber high velocity bullets were thought to shut down the nervous system instantly.

i really can't see myself hitting a tiger running at full blast towards me. so mabe a shotgun with bb or #4 buck

Actually, I think I've just come up with a reasonable proposition.....
Martini Henry rifle (NOT carbine) in 577/450........with sword bayonet.
It would take considerable aplomb but I'd try not to pull the trigger until the bayonet was almost in his mouth.

BBR in 340 Wby Mag, using 250 grain anything, wait until it's almost upon you then force the muzzle onto it's head or under it's throat or jaw and then pull the trigger, that oda do it. Better someone else then me though.
