You Don't Own A Type 81 - You Can't Speak For Us

Well, in a world awash with dirt cheap AK's, I guess even a "3rd rate" military can be choosy if they are buying T81 rifles instead.

And my battlefield conclusion would be referring to the functioning of these rifles. For you I will strip my words to the bare minimum to avoid confusion; all rifles with "issues" shown so far will still fire, I have not seen one yet that was inoperable.

Heck, not a single person has complained that their gun is a jam-o-matic; my worst issues so far have been a couple rounds out of over 500 that needed an assist up the feed ramp. Or the BHO not working 100%. Non of which would get me killed on the battlefield.

Oops, I have never shot my 81 in battle. Fvck me, I have never even been in battle. Guess my opinion is invalid.

Again you are assuming this was a purchase and not a part of a relief package china is sending to some random nation... of course that's assuming TI isn't lying to us about this whole thing.

So what you are saying is you had multiple bolt partially closed malfunctions. I don't know how to break this to you but that is considered a "jam". Which at an inopportune time can definitely get you dead on a battlefield.

And you realize if it fires and doesn't hit where it's supposed to that can get you dead right?

Stick to the cool factor, I won't argue it, you like it great. I'm happy for you(that wasn't sarcasm, it was genuine). But please skip the battlefield bs.

Agreed, I have a buddy who is very knowledgeable about military firearms and he basically laughed at me when I mentioned that at least it has seen combat. His reply was something along the lines you mention about 3rd rate organizations and short lived military use in actual combat. He rattled off some variant model numbers that he thought were far superior (I don't remember which ones) but all I know is that for civilian use it looks cool and has so far been reliable for me which is what I bought it for.

Fair enough you like it, and it serves what you want it to, that I can't and won't argue with you, like I said above I'm happy for you, but if you want to bring its amazing military service up I will call it out.

On to an actual question about this rifles mags, does sks D mags work with it? And why does TI need to bring in rifles to bring in crateloads of mags for the gun? Seeing this is a mostly out of use surplus gun there should be tons of surplus mags in some warehouse.

No doubt the 81 is not very high on anyone's list and it does not have an extensive combat history. That does not make it a POS, no matter how much some will say.

2 rounds in over 500 needed to have the charging handle pushed on lightly to go into battery. This equals multiple life stopping jams. Okay there....

No that equates to 2 malfunctions out of 500. For your purpose a mild nuisance. And yes at the inopportune time in a battlefield that is bad news bears. And your remedial action should have been tap rack not slap the charge handle forward.

As for it being reliable. The guns just landed. Nobody has a serious amount of trigger time on it yet. Time will tell how well it holds up.

What don't you like about it?

None of us will ever be on a battlefield with one of these so who cares if it has a jam every couple hundred rounds. Most semi autos that cost two or three times as much as the T-81 are no different than that. I expect the odd jam to become the almost never jam once these have a thousand rounds through them and those rough edges have smoothed out.

The largest military force in the world (PLA) with approximately 2,285,000 soldiers had some trigger time with it in the 1980's, lol, I don't need to wait for the trigger time of my fellow paper target warriors, no offence, but how could all those Chinese be wrong, lol.....

Ok, I can tell for sure now who I am dealing with, you realize I did exactly that, I never had to get to rack lol.

Your comprehension level isn't very good and the assumptions you jump to are laughable. My posts are quite clear in what the say. Slap the charge handle forward? Lol. Not being able to hit my target? Bigger lol.

And yes, any firearm can jam in combat, bad news bears for anyone no matter the gun in their hands. I am uncertain I would call a first round out of a mag, slightly sticking on a feedramp, a fatal stoppage. Maybe if it happened all the time, on every mag. But twice out of over 500 rounds? It even could have been me, operator error. All I know is that I was quickly back up and running.

I get it. You don't like this gun. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Reliability is looking good so far, long term I would expect AKM lifespan or greater. Advertised spec is 20,000 rounds, if I get to that many I will consider myself having got my moneys worth

Lol, with the price of x39 climbing like it is I doubt I will be able to afford 20000 rounds to put through the rifle.

I'm not sure why accuracy is being brought into the conversation, if anyone bought this rifle expecting tight groups they should laugh at themselves to save the rest of us the trouble. The best I've seen from mine with Cabela's corrosive is about 8 moa and I smiled the whole time I was shooting those terrible groups. If I want accuracy I'll grab my ACR or Modern Hunter. This is a fun and inexpensive toy to make a bunch of noise with and maybe smack a coyote stupid enough to come close enough that I can hit it.

I've had two stoppages in the 200 ish rounds I've put through mine, doesn't bother me at all. If I thought someone would ever be shooting back at me this is not the rifle I'd be carrying, I have rifles I'd trust my life to and that's not what I bought this one for.

Adding to your reply to R34 not arguing with you by the way.

I am guessing that the 20,000 round life expectancy of the Type 81 is based on a select fire (full auto) and 30 round mags... 5 rounds down the pipe per mag and in semi-auto only mode, will probably give us a much increased life expectancy... Very few if any of us will exceed the life expectancy of this gun (just my thoughts). Also, do the math with shipping and taxes on 20,000 non corrosive 7.62, those who can afford to wear this rifle out will easily afford another!

The t81? The safety is awkward. The gun is overweight. At the cost they are asking the build quality is unacceptable to me(no that's not me calling you dumb for disagreeing). Lack of parts and support including mags as alluded in this thread earlier.

As for why I don't buy norc in general. Well I am not a big fan of the chinese government and try and avoid giving them money by buying as little of their products as I can.

^^^ I didn't think you were arguing with me at all, my reading comprehension isn't that bad lol.

I only wish every gun I have bought was this reliable out of the box. And I fully agree that as the round count goes up my rifle will only become smoother and smoother to shoot. She is already pretty sweet

edit: damn I type slow sometimes, my post was to cr5

This thread was intended for those of us who in general do buy Norcs, lol... Your in a Type 81 fan thread. I am not really interested in the opinion of those who don't own or want one (we really don't care that you don't like the Chinese government).

I don't find the safety that bad, probably mostly because I don't use it. I have 5 round mags so I shoot it and it's empty before I'm ready to stop pulling the trigger which just happens to be safer than any mechanical safety device.
Overweight compared to? I held a real AK back to back with my T-81 and there was very little difference, the AK did feel a little more solid somehow but as for actual weight it was hard to tell the difference.
Build quality? Sure it's no US built AR but it not much different than any other Norinco or Poly I've handled so was pretty much what I was expecting.
Parts support and mags? Not today but TI has said they will be bringing in parts kits and more magazines so a little patience will bring those into our hands.

Meh, Doesn't make much difference if we buy their guns or not. They own most of the US already so it's not like they need our money. You do realize how much crap we use day to day comes from China though right? You're entitled to try to keep your money domestic though and no one can fault you for that.

Lol, I knew it was for me.
You could always reply with quote instead of the ^^^^. Gotta be fast on these threads when the bashing starts to get heated, lol.

Oh, c'mon... The Chinese didn't equip all ~2,285,000 soilders with the Type 81. They didn't even make that many for the PLA in the first place. doubt they are producing any more for the PLA considering the 5.8x42 round and the QBZ-95 variants are now the front line service rifle.

We're not talking about the Kalashnikov here, people. Don't hold it to the same regard.

If my 81 was a POS i would have no problem saying so, believe me. I have no allegiance to TI or the chinese government. If someone didn't want to buy guns from Israel, Russia, China etc because of politics, it wouldn't affect my purchases one bit.

Build quality and the product in general has met whatever expectations I had. Someday I will do a serious test comparing accuracy between my shooter SKS, 858 and 81 but from what I have seen so far, the 81 is just as accurate if not more so than the other 2, at least the examples I have, and with me shooting.

Lol, all that matters is that a few soldiers used it in combat so it can be called battle proven because on CGN that's all that matters when evaluating the reliability and pure awesomeness of a rifle. :p

I modified my sights again after my last outing. Gave the front post a little thinning and a bit of a point. Before you know it I'm going to have a sniper variant of the T-81 and my 8 moa groups should shrink down to 6 or 7 moa.
I went in with low expectations and I was actually pleased that it was better than I thought it would be.

And now I am very aware of who I am dealing with tap part in tap rack refers to the magazine. Not the charging handle. Simply put yes anything you say at this point is invalid. Have a nice day.

Compared to a vz, and maybe my memory is fading but the WASR I played with felt lighter as well. But mostly the VZ. And forgive me but I don't trust TI all that much these days.

And like I said I try and avoid it if I can, in this instance it's fairly easy. I'm glad you like yours. Enjoy it. :)

I agree with a lot of what you say. With regards to comparing the 81 to the AK, my opinion is that the 81 is an interesting curiosity but an evolutionary dead end on the AK tree when it comes down to it. But the SKS and the m14 were also platforms that enjoyed relatively short service lives and were quickly surpassed by other weapon systems/doctrines. That does not make them crap guns though. IMO as an evolution of, and answer to "improving" the AK, we can expect similar of the 81 as to performance.

As the t81 is being phased out for 95's, the 81s are being given to the police and reserve units to replace their older sks an ak rifles.
