I must apologize for there NOT being a stripper clip guide, we simply could not figure out how to make one function with the scope base in place....
John

John,

Perhaps using what some millitaries have used over the years, the offset scope base so the scope is not over the bore but to the left to allow loading ?? :)

The M1D's used this set-up, so did a few others I belive :)

Guys, let's keep this civil. I'll delete any posts that aren't.

FYI, Marstar is a CGN contributing dealer now, so hotlinks to Marstar are fine.

Hi Dimitri
I don't think you would enjoy that type of optics platform.
If it was a system that worked well you would have seen it grow and adopted in future generations of battle rifles. The only system that worked (to my knowledge) was the short range sniping platform adopted by the Germans in WW2 using Long Eye Relief scopes to keep the stripper clip guide viable.

What I do know is that its a real chore to zero your rifle.

Will do Stevo :)

Riflechair,

Perhaps you are right I havnt used a rifle with the scope mounted on the left side of the reciever or barrel like the M1D :) To be honest I've not used scoped rifles much, I prefer iron's myself. :D

I had to weigh in on this one..

Ultimately I will wait to hear what is said by others that have the opportunity to evaluate the actual rifle.

However, from the description several things jump out at me:

Teak stock?
Brewer collar? not very Lee-Enfield
Re-designed mag release? Not Lee-Enfield
Mark 2 rear sight, arguably the worst of all the Lee sights, expedient and cheap to build yes, target grade no.
Not stripper clip compatible.

At best it resembles a No4 MkI (Mk2) from a distance and the price is a bit stiff.

I'll wait for the reviews......

Always a pleasure to read your decriptive, colourful and well written thoughts.

It is quite obvious that you put a lot of thought in coming up with this review of our new products.

I must assume that you have already een them, handled them, shot them ??

Thank you once again for your objective review
John

Dang Scope base. :D

Hmmm for the non-scope folks how about a small mount/bracket that fits where the scope base used to go that acts like a stripper guide? One could even use the original scope mount screw holes.

There... if you use this idea you have to send me a rifle for the idea. :D

Source 1: Enfield's listed at $350, $425, and $750 (new in wrap) in .303. One listed as a 7.62NATO conversion for $750.
Source 2: Enfield's at $375.
Source 3: Enfield's listed for $300, $280.
Source 4: Enfield at $350.
These are all milsurp British guns, for a Long Branch tack on $100-$300. Now tell me these are cheap.

The Marstar Enfields look alikes are listed at $800. They're NEW, have a nice teak stock, and have chrome-lined bores. It's a totally different rifle, albeit very similar to the standard No. 4, but they are not in the same category. I for one am very seriously considering picking up the No. 4 Mk. IV. It's got that milsurp flair while still being new, and it shoots .308, of which surplus is available unlike .303, and the introductory offer with the free goodies is nice to have. And don't forget, people were really wanting to see these rifles here, and are now #####ing about it... and Hitzy, give your head a shake. You're a ### #### (mods, just using words he used) for having trashed these guns already; they've not been on the market for 24 hours and you're already #####ing  .

Good for you Marstar, thanks for bringing some more good stuff. Also looking forward to seeing what you're bringing in next...
P.S. Am looking forward to receiving my JW-25 wood set John. :)

The carbine version in 7.62x39 looks pretty sharp though.....

John,
If you don't mind, how much are the 7.62X39 carbines going to cost?
When you originally posted the news of the AIA's arrival to market you didn't say much about the rest of the planed inventory....
I almost thought they had been scrapped.

Eh. I'd rather pay $600 to get a Longbranch No4Mk2 that has the history behind it, is in the original military calibre, and will only ever increase in value over the years, than pay $800+ for a hunting rifle that will only decrease in value.

Not to say that they're a bad rifle, etc, as I've never shot one. I'm sure there are many people that will buy one and have many years of enjoyment out of them. They're just not my cup of tea is all.

Hi Tanis
Sorry to be a milsurp nerd but Long Branch never made a No4Mk2.

However lets look at this from another perspective.

The German mauser Action has been newly manufactured for many years since the war. Retail for sporter rifles with this action can be anywhere from $400 to $25,000 depending on the customization done.

You're right though - if its not your cup of tea then thats cool too.

Once again I must ask you to read, read and read again before pronouncing yourself on this subject....
Please take a moment to visit our site for pricing and information.... You will note on the Marstar site that our price is $799. not "plus, plus" as you say, but rather it includes a whole list of accessories, the list is there.... In red yet
We do not sell the accessory pack, rather we offer a list of available accessories which can be purchased seperately.... But I say again the scope is included in the entire list of extras for FREE, did we do wrong by offering this.??

Follow the two links for detailed photos and information....
Follow the othe link to the AIA site for even more information....

AFTER you have read through all the details you will note that the other models ARE NOT simply "sporterized" or "cloned" versions of the No-4-Mk-4
please read the details....

Would you nind taking a moment and explaining how Canadian prices are supposed to relate to Australian prices ????
John

Hi John,

Sorry to be confusing, plus plus is internet slang for "plus taxes, plus shipping". It's not meant as a derrogatory statement ;)

As for a scope, I hadn't noticed one in the extras list? Only a scope MOUNT. I must have mis-read your ad, or possibly looked at an early edit of the page (note the B2 traget link was dead when I was first surfing it). My apologies.

As for Aussie prices, you;re right - they don't relate. I merely commented on what's "included" in the standard rifle deal on Oz as compared to this market.

Again, I didn;t mean to bash Marstar - far from it. I was just stating my uneducated opinion about the offering in a non-bashing way. I'm sorry if it came accross as otherwise.

I think you'll agree, my CGN discussions on Marstar have been VERY positive on the whole - just look up my account at work ;) Peter knows which one it is...

We should have the 7.62x39 carbines here ib about 6-8 weeks
John

John- Are you getting the nickel plated looking M42 .308 carbines (bottom rifle in my profile pic) or just the blued or parkerized version? Do they also have a chrome lined bore?(I think the answer is no)

I could wish they had retained the bayonet lug and stripper clip guide on these rifles, I have a pile of no 4 bayos of various provenance...although with the variable headspace indexing(a great idea) it would make the bayonet rotate around the barrel, maybe not so great...

Was that a typo in your post, is there a scope included or just the mount? I saw on an Aussie site there was a scope with the rifles.

Nice rifles btw, I'm interested...

OK, I realize an all chrome gun is a tad ###, but if the sights were still blued or parkerized, an all chrome version in 7.62x39 would be a pretty sturdy sport utility rifle/ working gun. Kind of nice to be able to toss the SOB behind the truck seat without worrying about it rusting without an immediate detail cleaning.:D
