Your 3-Gun Rifle Setup?

So. With the 3 Gun matches we have in Ontario.

Are there long rifle shots like in the USA out to say 400 m or more?

I ask because I have a build and im deciding on a stainless 14.5" barrel but also looking at a stainless 16.5" fluted barrel.

Obviously the 16.5" is better for velocity and a bit better for distance. But would I be hindered with the shorter barrel?

This will be a scoped AR regardless.

There is going to be approx. 50-75 fps difference between the two - and more importantly no practicable difference between them out to 400m accuracy-wise. I prefer a 16" with a mid-length gas system as a good all-rounder.

Onagoth makes a good point about crossing into states with sbr.

I would'nt go shorter/longer than 18" with optic or shorter/longer than 20" irons myself.

I will play.
Indoor CQB matches on the left. Service Rifle/ Outdoor matches on the right.
Still on the fence about a 1-6 optic. Want to check out 667s leupold and Onagoths Bushnell
Vortex 1-4 work great for the money.

You rarely see any top 3-gun guys with forend grips. Even speedracingjunkie doesn't have one on one of his ARs. Might be more comfortable for really close range stuff for him. I don't use them anymore.

I have a bipod adaptor that lines up my support grip every time...plus it makes my grip somewhat more tactile....oddly enough, I almost never use it for a bipod

Leaning to that 16" fluted if I get my hands on it.

I did exact same with a PRI handguard. Used a bipod to make sure I was zeroed and used the point as a reference somewhat but was more of a place to pull back slightly when hammering shots.

IMHO that is as long as it needs to be...I'm a little confused as to why guys run 18" and longer barrels.
A rifle gas system can't be it as the middy has been out for what? 10ish years?

I started using my jr carbine in .40 with a 4x32 acog copy and it works well.. We never seem to break 50 yards though.

That's the thing with most matches here in the great white north... We don't have the real estate to stretch it out.
You'd never even think to run a PCC at a US 3-Gun event.
Our American friends aren't burdened with the same restrictions we are...

At the major US events yes... You'll shoot some stages on "square" ranges, but... You'll also shoot in farmers fields, in forests, across lakes and in any manner of natural terrain.

We've been to shoots where rifle targets range from pretty much "contact" distance to upwards of 500yards.

It's awsome and really lets you know how good you are as opposed to how good you "think" you are.
