Your 5 rarest milsurps

@KENNYMO:

Yes, friend, I would say the same, but everybody keeps telling me that it doesn't exist. Sure takes up enough ROOM for something that doesn't exist! What I was told, many years ago, was that SIX were done with the composite Aluminum/Wood stocks and a DOZEN were done with the recycled Ross butt. As well, mine has a SUNCORITE finish and a 1945 Barrel Date with Enfield Inspectors' markings. Enfield STOPPED all work on the Number 1 rifle TWO YEARS previously. It is a Toolroom rifle, most definitely..... but it doesn't exist.

Ha! Well that explains it.......sorta. :)

Hmm, let's see.

1. Enfield Enforcer
2. L42A1
3. Trials No4Mk1 converted to sniper
4. Jap T99 sniper (sadly no scope)
5. Vet bring back all matching byf 44 K98
6. Unissued No4mkI* Savage with shipping box and separate numbered box for the bolt.

Another 5:

1. 1950 LB DCRA rifle.
2. No1MkIII match rifle with ball burnished heavy barrel.
3. 2 1905 Ross mk2** Commercial Target Rifles, one with Humphrey's rear sight bridge.
4. RIC Carbine
5. CNo7 with transit case
6. 1943 No4mkI(T) all matching including transit case.

Maybe another 5:

1. 1942 G33/40
2. Vz33 with German service.
3. Pre 1900 LSA sporter.
4. swp45 Kriegsmodel with tangent rear sight, mix blue and phosphate parts.
5. No1MkIII Siamese contract Smiling Tiger.

It's hard to choose.

God I am drooling at these rifles. Question though. Did the Government sell C1s as surplus at any point? How did people acquire them?

They were available to DCRA shooters at list price. And not just the C1A1, but also the FN C2A1, and the SMG C1. These were directly from Canadian Arsenals. As well, when the arsenal was closed in the mid 70s, they auctioned parts off by the box and the barrel. There was enough auctioned off that guys could continue to assemble rifles.

There were also the 8L series of rifles, many of which were sold to the OPP. When the time came to dispose of them, they were sold to a US distributor, rejected by the BATF, and then sent off to the UK. From there, quite a number of them were returned to Canada. About 15 years back you could buy them from collectors source for around $700 or so each.

There are between 300 and 700 of these rifles in civilian hands here in Canada. Not overly rare, but not something that is available for purchase on a whim.

Some very sweet stuff here. Thanks for sharing.

Smellie...while you and BallsofIce negotiate the full or part-time future habitation of that 226th Battalion Ross, would you mind sharing a few photos of the rifle and markings? My grandfather (I'm his namesake) joined the 226th out of Swan River as a 17-year old, eventually becoming a signalman/runner with the 43rd Battalion Cameron Highlanders.

Having sold off a couple of scarce items, here's my more mundane contribution to this great thread:

Canadian Martini-Henry Mk III (may or may not have history linking it to the 90th Battalion Winnipeg Rifles)
Ross Mk II 5* (marked to the Fort Garry Horse among others)
Webley MK V revolver (military-marked 6" barrel)
"Boer" Mauser (OVS-marked and burgher-carved)
POF Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk 2 (it was either this or my RCN-marked Colt New Service)

Oh ok cool! Thanks for the info! It sucks that these rifles, which were the arm of our military are banned. They are awesome rifles!

I have a small collection of them as dewats. Currently, it consists of an EX1, Two C1A1s, and a C2A1. I am like the Grim reaper to Canadian FNs.....as I can find them they will have to pass away. Mind you, I did pick one up live the other year (transferred to a friend who is licensed) and when the time came to do the final task, I backed down and let that one live. But as I start setting up my dispaly board for the FNs, I regret that decision. So many accessories and not enough rifles to display them on.

Definitely my Turkish Forestry Carbine is my rarest. A surprisingly large number made it to Canada but my reading indicates only about 5000 ever made.

Rarest in my collection but not necessarily the rarest out there would be my #s matching vet bring back 1915 gew 98 mauser obendorf with the original sling and with some shrapnel damage to the trigger guard. Second I guess would be my no1 mk3 Siamese Enfield. 3rd would be my 1901 Longlee. 4th is my Finish M24 swiss stepped barrel unaltered to take the modern 7.62x54, and last would be my Ariska type 99 with MUM intact second series I believe with the air craft sights. Just throwing a sixth one is a #s matching non finish captured Mosin Westinghouse, but sadly when it finally came the stock had been cut in half and joined by a steel rod:( After a bunch of researching the only explanation for it being cut was that it might be a so called Duffal cut. What a shame but still a very nice rifle.

DA serial Ross 1915
Lee Metford mark 1* 1890
Sparkbrook #1 mark 1*** 1905
Ross mark 11** target 1911
Lee Metford mark 11 1893
And a 41 Johnson for fun

Well to update the rarest two firearms I now own are a Finnish Capture Soviet manufactured M1891 Infantry Rifle, and a Bulgarian M95 in the original 8x50r. Both of these would have been battlefield captures and are among the few remaining of once relatively common rifles that now exist (the M91s all being converted to M91/30 standard for the most part, and the Bulgarian M95s being converted to 8x56r for the most part).

5 of mine

I'll add a few more of my rarer ones.

1943 no1 mk3 longbranch regulated by Alfred George Parker, AG bore and has a PH-5C on it.

1900 MLE Mk1, navy and south African marked. It's sportered but is still wearing it's cut off and volley sights. Bore is in good condition and the rifke shoots VERY well. Just need a barrel band and I'll be able to splice a forend on her.

Next up isn't super rare (total of 57000 produced). It's a 1886 Kropatscheck long rifle. What makes its interesting is its serial number 180. It's was a gift from Smellie and will be charished the rest of my days.

Last up isn't a milsurp but it's VERY rare so I'll post it here.

H&R Aetna 38rf revolver. One of 1500 made. In almost new condition. Other then some nickel loss it looks to be unfired
