Your 7mm rem mag component preferences

I prefer nosler brass in mine, have had good luck with remington brass thow.I have tried Federal brass and the primer pockets got fairly loose after a few firings.H4831sc has bin my main go to powder.I have used h1000,imr4831,imr7828,retumbo,h4350 and win 780 with good luck.

There is no way of knowing if 1F is actually 1F.

H1000, 7828 are the two I current use on a few 7RM's I load for.

You can usually see the die marks on reloaded brass, if it hasn't been polished. I will not buy brass that has been processed or tumbled because then there is no way of knowing.

I have used Remington and Winchester cases, I avoid Federal cases. I prefer Fed 215 primers. I use either Accubonds or the TTSX, usually 140gr with either. R-22 has been my go to powder.

Federal 300win mag brass had loose primer pockets after 1 firing of a mild load that Winchester brass has gone 6 loadings and is still tight.

Only thing I will say about PRVI 7mm mag brass is be cautious if loading hot. Nosler/Norma brass weighs around 218gr, PRVI was around 265gr, so a fair bit more brass in those.

So the assumption here would be that capacity on PRVI brass is a bit less than nosler? Is Nosler the company that doesn't actually make brass, but simply repackages other brands? (I've heard one of the major companies doesn't actually make brass)

That's pretty much what I've heard about fed brass, and why I didn't have any issues scraping what I had for my 270...

So of the cheaper brands, PRVI is good but capacity is a tad lower, and winchester and remington are both decent? I like the idea of nosler, but I think I want to start with something more affordable and maybe upgrade to the nosler once I've reloaded for this caliber a bit...

I see no love for Hornady brass? Any particular reason?

Is there another common brass that can be resized to 7mm rem mag with ease? I'm not terribly worried about head stamps as this is my only belted magnum in the locker...

Hornady brass seems to be a hit and miss acquistion on quality. I have some that has been ok, others have had some they thought was no good. But brass reviews have to be taken with a grain of salt as well, lots of people load a bit warmer than they think they are. I've used Federal, it isn't overly consistent, last choice, and even then I'll buy loaded ammo to get brass rather than use Federal, Norma isn't a whole bunch better in my experience. If you can find Remington it is usually fairly consistent, otherwise, Lapua or RWS or perhaps the Prvi. I've had good luck with WW brass as well. Some batches anyone's brass seem to handle upper end loads better than others, depends on how hot you load it also. haven't tried it, but Peterson seems to be getting decent reviews.
Best primer for magnum cases are f215GM if you can get them handily, regular F215 is fine also, unless you are using a hand primer, then don't use Federal in it. CCI 250 and Rem 9-1/2m also have a place where they work well. Pretty much any powder from RL19 to H870 will work in a 7mag, generally the powders in the h4831 to Retumbo zone seem to be the best results for most people.

I still have a 7mm Rem Mag.
My preferred bullet for big game is the 160 grain Sierra boattail. At close to 3000 feet per second.
I have taken over 40 Moose, 10 bears, 2 wolves.
I have never lost an animal that I hit with these bullets.
Shoots good at long range without too much recoil.
Regards

Oh God no! Who can afford premium factory ammo!?

I like to start with good components. Norma or Nosler ammo costs less loaded than it does if you source the components and make it yourself. That isn't taking into account your time to load it. Where I save my money is on each subsequent load when I reuse the brass.

I got a good deal on a batch of WW 264 Win brass that I've used as match 7mm brass, it's been decent. Problem with WW is the blue/white bag stuff was good brass, the red/black bag stuff is garbage, and mail order you don't know what you will get.
Higginson Powders has 1F Remington, and it is truly 1F, it's cheap and decent.

I use W-W brass, H1000 (several grains over current Hogdon reloading site) and currently 162gr hornady btsp. The hornady’s are really performing, accurate and have yet to recover one. Used 160 gr Nosler part prior to the hornady bullets and only recovered one that went almost front to back on a moose. Anyone try IMR 7977 yet ?

Why are you thinking of switching? Not getting enough loads from it or...?

The PRVI brass is very reasonably priced... I was planning to get once fired but I might have to consider new as well... Any major advantage to new brass over once fired? I've always bought enough factory ammo to supply brass before getting the reloading gear, but this time around I only bought one box and plan to reload from the get go pretty much.

What powders do people like? I only have IMR4350 on the shelf, and was thinking about trying some RL 22...

Brass life has been reasonable particularly for the price I payed. I just don't have a lifetime supply worth and I'm considering buying enough to last me. Hoping do do a buy once cry once scenario. Part of it is because I've had to cull some of the cases after 2 loadings, so yes brass life issues.
If you want to shoot heavier bullets in your 7mm Mag H1000 has been stellar to me. 7828 of whatever variety I can get my hands on sling 150 NBT's into satisfyingly small groups as well as a lot of other bullets provided they are flat based. I

I used quite a bit of 7977 when I was developing a 7mm load. It worked well with the 162 eldx but I ended up using h4831sc and 140 etips.

Hmmm wish I knew that. Saw one of the blue bags locally recently but didn't buy them... Next time I'm in there I'll have to look for it again...

As for powder, my plan is to use a light weight all copper bullet, starting with the 139gr gmx and going to a 140 or 150ttsx if these don't shoot well enough, but I'll also be shooting the 162gr interlock for range practice, so I want something that'll work with both but is better optimised for the 140-150gr weights.

The PRVI is good hunting brass and will last a long time, you just need to use a little caution and a chrony to make sure you aren't going overboard. Kind of like using IVI 7.62 brass for 308 loads, just have to give up a couple grains to stay in the safe zone. I use it strictly for my Vanguard running 110gr & 120gr TTSX at fairly high speed.
