Your choice for a CUSTOM caliber in the 6-7mm range... why?

I'm kinda back to .284 bullets... .280 AI and .284 Win primarily, they both slightly edge the .280 Rem... and all edge the 6.5 set (although velocity is not everything) the Ackley has a slight edge (per Hogdon website) with the lighter bullets (120-140) and the .284 Win has a "slight" edge with the heavier loads (150-168)... The problem is these hold only a slight edge over .308 Win which we already shoot... this is "analysis parralysis!" Bottom line, I want a new toy, it doesn't have to make perfect sense... I should almost just chamber the "coolest" round...

6.5-257 Roberts, and 6mm-284 Win both have that cool factor....Far too cool for the H&R..

Get off the H&R already... its what I'm doing... cause I wanna... and I get to do what I wanna... I like doing swap barrel sets and get them shooting better than you would ever believe... trigger work, bedding, barrel stud pillar, lug tuning, restocking etc... and they are a simple, slick, "handi" alternative to more expensive bolt options... here are some pics;

Not shown are a .44 Mag/.45/70 Combo and .22 K Hornet/.410 Combo... I am in the middle of coverting the 7mm-08 to a Walnut Mannlicher style... and of course, working on this new build, which you folks are helping me sort out.

What do those rigs cost you to build, total?

This is where you apply the "Ultimate 10/22" syndrome to my work on H&R Handi rifles... ie. "for the money you spent on those guns you could have bought Model "X." Well I have done the 10/22 clone thing too (see below)... because I enjoy it. Can we move on with the choosing of a caliber... which, with this build, will be on a dedicated frame tuned for long distance with a full profile barrel... via "stub" as I mentioned earlier... and Handi's lend themselves well to stubs.

6.5x55 AI

I already have too many 6 and 7 mm, and I would like a little less body taper than the original 6.5.

EDIT: in regards to the ops whole question, my 7mm STW is my all time fave rifle, and chambering. That thing just works, close to way farther than I can shoot at any game. If I didn't already have one, it would have been my first choice for a custom rifle. Mine is a Voere Titan II with a 30" pipe. Pure ballistic bliss.

6.5X55 AI is a nice choice... performance aside... the only thing that really makes sense with my set of .243/7mm-08/.308 is a 6.5 of some sort...

As in the game "Twister?" Last time I checked it didn't require break-dancing on your head. ;)

Then your doing it wrong...........

6.5-08..............then you can try to keep all your brass sorted............oh and while your at it get the 243 chamber recut to 6-08.......

When you burn the throats out in a couple years then AI the entire fleet..........

It's from a ridiculous TV commercial on these days about Trojans latest ..... ummmm ..... personal massage item called the twister. If you haven't seen it, then the joke was pointless. My bad
