Your dream rifle for 1000m and beyond

IMG_0553.jpg

Nice build....congrats. Do you shoot out at Genesee or......?

Pushing 180gr Bergers 2900-3000fps

Yummy :D

My 7RM is waiting for the snow to melt. I will chronie when it gets warmer cause I think I frooze it last time I was out - lots of flickering numbers.:D

I figure I am around 3050fps from a 26" Shilen. A 30" would have been nicer but this was available and it is shooting just fine.

1000m is a snore for this bullet. I want to see what it does at 1mile and beyond. Hopefully, it will stay stable once it goes subsonic and then I can send them to 2500yds or so.

With respect to the thread, I already shoot my dream rifles. Nothing fancy nor expensive, but the Savage/Stevens builds I have do all I could possibly want.

Barnard P action, 32" Premium barrel Like Hart, Tru flyte, Krieger,Robertson Fclass

Jerry.....my "toys" and I are waiting for your snow to melt too !! :D

ANYTIME....

Manitou, with that much bullet weight, I am going to suggest a bigger case. The 7RM might just do it as I have lots of extra case capacity if I were to throat longer.

If you don't like the belt, the 375 Ruger would make a dandy case to wildcat.

I have seen some cartridge drawings and they are very ###y...

Thanks Jerry I read up on the Ruger 375 its new to me. get the 200 over 3000 would be nice at 1000, don't know if my old body could handle recoil

How come $8000???

I was including the scope -2100, rings (2 sets of Nightforce or similar, 400?), custom dies required for the allen mag - 300. Pic rail 150, an A5 stock is pushing 900, the action 1300, trigger 250, barrel 400, brake 250, ACI/level 150, trigger guard 50 and it would be nice to have it cerrakote'd (200?)
Thats roughly 6450, that leaves a bit for the smith, and the rest in GST/PST (12%). No shipping on the parts, and I likely missed something..

Timberwolf would be my second choice. But I've always wanted one of these....

Blaser Tactical 2 in .338 Lapua.

Removes rotational force from the equation. My R93 in .308 will do clover leafs all day. And so does my .257 'Bee. I would kill to use one of these.

I think 1000 would be a warm up. These high BC bullets just keep going and going and going.

I decided to go smaller so I wouldn't need a muzzle brake. Not enjoying the kaboom like I used to.

Being a recoil wuss now that my shoulder is busted, I can tell you that the 180gr/7RM combo in a 20lb rifle boots more then I care to shoot. I have since set it up to bolt on another 15ish lbs of ballast.

Fugly as all get out but the recoil is now a nice slow push. Makes spotting your own hits easy. Don't think going any bigger is for me. At least not without a brake.

As for 408CT brass, pretty much the same costs as Lapua 338 LM brass. Supply is not bad either.

Let me know....

Anything in .260 Remington. Once described as the "smart mans .308". Same or better energy at 1000yrds with half the drop in trajectory. Not to mention the reduction in recoil.

Downsides: Limited factory ammo offerings - if you'll be reloading, then this is obviously a non-issue.

My 2¢,
