Take a serious look at High Standard. There are on Exchange forum from time to time. Unexpensive and good shooting pistols.

Favorite .22 Pistol

My favorite is the Ruger Mark III Hunter 22 LR - RUKMKIII45HCL

Canadian Legal 4.5" Bull Barrel, in Stainless Steel, and comes straight from the factory with Crimson Trace Laser Grips.

It's not the cheapest on the Market, but IMHO, it's the nicest looking, and very, very accurate. Once you have the laser sighted in, and with a little practice, you just can't miss. I Love mine.

If money and cheapness is not the priority, you might take a look at one of the larger caliber handguns that have a .22 conversion kit. I have a Sig Sauer P226R in .40 S&W for my main handgun, and I use the .22LR conversion for lots of practice and become very familiar with the feel of the handgun. There are many other Great Handguns out there that also offer a .22 Conversion Kit.

I like the Browning buckmark .22cal pistols, nicer looking than the rugers and I think a slightly better design. that being said I spend my money on conversion kits and will also be buying the 1911 GSG this summer.

Reising and S&W 2206. They don't make either of them anymore.
Of course there is my S&W K22 revolver (also not made anymore)
Then there are the HiPower and M1911 .22 converskon kits.
OOPS, forgot the .22 Webley conversion kits.
Hard to pick a favourite;)

if you want a realistic looking gun, go for the GSG 1911. I have the SIG mosquito, and while it serves me well, it would have been cheaper to get the GSG, and I hear its quite good.

the ruger Mk III is also a great gun, shoots well/accurate and will eat all sorts of ammo, but its more "space age" looking

I bought a Sig Mosquito from badger Arms we have almost 800 rounds thru it with No problems,(Well we did have one miss fire)its a great gun everyone who has shot it likes it as it just fells good to shoot, I also just ordered a GSG from Badger Arms I'm hoping its as much fun to shoot and as reliable as the Sig has been

Depends. Some days it's a Colt Diamondback or Frontier Scout, sometimes a High Standard Supermatic Citation or Colt Woodsman Match Target. Or the Colt Officers' Model Match Target, or lowly S+W K17. Might be one of my Rugers, or the Mossad's favorite Beretta 71. Sigh. Nope, sorry, I can't choose. - dan

My personal best pistol has been my 422 with adjustable sights in 6" barrel. It just works for my eyes and the lightness is a godsend in my extended hold shots. Its a simple design and it shot everything out between 18 and 24" with rarely a ftf. More often than not, I'd throw the same round in again and it would fire. So thats not the guns fault. My Ruger Mk I with the 6 and 7/8" barrel is a real barnburner, but its 2 or 3 times the weight. Both were excellent shooters for me. I can't imagine another gun shooting better for me personally. It would be a step sideways, not a step up. (Maybe the 2206 or 622 S & W.....)

I like .22's on the 1911 frame. Used to be my Colt .22 unit on a 1911 frame but since last Fall it's been my new GSG 1911 .22lr.

That said, I also like:

Ruger MkII 5.5" bull barrel model.
Ruger MkIII 4.5" slab side barrel model.
Beretta Model 71
S&W Model 34 4"
S&W Model 63 4"
