Your favorite .22 cal pistol

Just to clarify, I didnt start with a Walther SSP. I started with a Ruger II Bull barrell and it was a good gun no doubt about it. Then I got a used Walther KSP and a couple years later got the SSP (used from.....can you believe this...a used car dealer. I think someone traded it in on a car, being a little short of cash...) and anyway now my daughter shoots the KSP and we have a LOT OF FUN TOGETHER shooting bullseye...use CCI Standard velocity (which seems to be hard to find - none of the dealers on this site seem to carry it).

I was really surprised by the performance of my Ruger MKIII 22/45 stainless. For $400-ish new, it's one of the best values out there. I have large hands, yet I find the slim 1911 molded grip very pleasant to hold.

My only .22 is a GSG-1911. I do like it - but I haven't tried others. Maybe its the GSG success that explains why there is a bunch of .22 models being introduced at the latest SHOT show by very reputable gun makers - including Nighthawk. If you like 1911s, I'd wait a bit for those to become available in Canada.

Maybe one day Ruger will catch up on some of that 'success'

My first .22 pistol was the Norinco M93. I sold it and bought the Ruger Mark 3 Competition in SS. Sold it and bought this one last year...

This is it!!! No more no less.

As Rod B says ...
Hamden production High Standard, Citation or Trophy, 2nd choice would be a S&W model 41

Always lusted after a Browning Medalist as well ...

High Standards have an ability to digest a lot of different makes of .22 and they shoot most quite well. Model 41's shoot very well but tend to be fussier with the ammo you feed it. You'll never regret buying either one.

gsg's are great value,

ruger Mark III bull barrels are incredibly accurate for the money

S&W 17's are about the best wheel 22 out there.

Any high end target 22 will bring you years of outstanding shooting and much frustration as you will never ever be able to outshoot the gun, unless of course you are a freak of nature.

Ruger MKIII 22/45 (shortest barrel available and still legal in Canada); with a little tweaking, super reliable, fun and solid. The only weakness would be the mags (sometimes you get bad ones, new.)

i'm also considering either a sig mosquito, or gsg 1911 tactical. seems like both of these are front runners for me. i'd probably go with the gsg due to the price point.

i would stay away from mosquito's IMO i've heard nothing but bad things about them a guy i know had one and it never worked very well from day 1 and he shot 2000 rounds threw it as everyone told him it would get better just needs to be broken in and it never did even had the feed ramp polished and other stuff done to it by a gunsmith finally the gunsmith took the gun back on trade for another 22 and stoped selling mosquito's.

Just my .02 cents

mosquitos were crap in the 1st few years, and it hurt their image permanently, however they are better made recently. they also made the mistake of installing the heavy spring inside and no one bothered reading the manual which said that it wont cycle lighter rounds with that spring.

I bought mine last year and once broken in, it shoots great, even with the cheapest ammo around ontario, remington thunderbolts (but will not cycle the 2nd cheapest win wildcats, go figure)

I would go for the gsg 1911 if I were to buy today, ~200 bucks cheaper, and functions like the 1911 I have

Take a look at a Browning Buckmark....lots of models to choose from and they are really nice to handle, easy to clean and are made by Browning.

My Beretta Neos eats any kind of ammo I feed it and still comes back for more. I just wish Beretta USA would send the new firing pins to Stoeger Canada so the recall work can get done and I can get it back.:(

Most accurate shooter Hammerli 150.
Most accurate semi I own Ruger Mk II.
I have a Star Model F for younger/novice shooters. It's no champion, but the younger kids don't care @10 yards when they punch paper for the first time with a handgun.
