My favourite is the Browning SA22. They're a little bit finnicky -- you have to keep them clean and oiled or they jam -- but I love the ergonomics and the trigger. Lightweight, easy to handle, and much nicer trigger than the (factory) 10/22. Having said that, I like the 10/22 because it will run all day without any issues. I find the factory trigger too heavy and the factory stock too heavy and clunky for my small hands. I haven't looked into aftermarket options because I like the Browning, but I'm thinking about starting a 10/22 project just for fun. I think with the right aftermarket parts, the 10/22 could be a fantastic gun.

That's a nice rifle. When I was a kid, I'd look at the Browning catalog, dreaming about owning one. That, and a Browning bow - which I finally happened into, as someone was giving it away. A bare 42 years after my daydreams. :-}

:agree:

The 10/22 is fun to tinker with... But my favorite semi, has to be the Browning Auto

The Browning SA22 is certainly on my list. I still kick myself for not buying one of the Norinco knock-offs when they were $120 a few years ago... You can still find them for pretty cheap mind you, but not $120 cheap...

I've had most of the better semi auto 22 rifles. They are all
gone down the road and 3 10-22's remain. The oldest reciver is on its 3rd barrel and has in excess of 200,000 rounds thru it.

Lakefield/Mossberg...not sure what model.....bought new around 1980...had a folding forend...it used to jam all the time...can't remember what I finally did with it...Anyway, it was my favorite and the only semi-auto .22 that I ever owned.

Brno 581 and CZ 511.

CZ511 is essentially a rebadged version of the Brno 581 which has been in production since the late 1950's. Tried, tested and true. They shoot well and cycle flawlessly. It's also hard to beat CZ's cold hammer forged barrels. And, they cycle subsonic!!

I had to check the other category. The only semi-auto 22 I've ever owned is a Cooey 64 that has been going for many years and countless bricks of ammo.Put a lot of small game in the pot over the years.

Gevarm A-3 and A-6.
French walnut stocks and and high quality blue.
I've shot tens of thousands of rounds through a lot of different semi auto 22's but these stand out for being absolutely reliable.
Likely the most simple fail safe system ever built into a semi auto rimfire.

Marlin 795,most accurate,lousy trigger.

I thought it would be great for my kids due to the small lightweight size but none of them like it because of the trigger.

I respect it for what it is and like the features and accuracy, but agree with your assessment as well.
