What's the best way to gut a grey squirrel? I tried recently and made a dog's breakfast of it. (literally). so much so that I pretty much rendered the rest of it unusable.

My "friend" the gray squirrel ? I wonder how many times I sat on a deer watch in Ontario with one of those damned things sitting 10 ft above me in a tree chirping it's damned head off for HOURS !!!!! Definately NOT my friend. I'm no help cleaning them. They're tree rats to me as well.
Just like a rabbit. Cut around the rear legs above the knee, then up to the butt down each leg. Peel skin down the rear legs and continue to pull it off the animal like a sock. Once the skin is off. Cut off the head and feet. Open the belly (careful not to poke the guts) and pull out the contents.
Do a search on the net, there are a few good tutorial videos.
Cook them low and slow, enjoy.
Good luck!
Its just because it's cute and furry, and part of the rodent family... whats not appetizing about that? hahaha never tried it simple because it's not a common thing to eat and may have rabies.. but I am curious, anyone have squirrel recipes and dinner pics?
Peel them like a sock, then gut. The worst part is picking all the little fine hairs off. I bread them and deep fry them in southern chicken breading..... Tastes just like KFC original recipe... MMMMMMmmmmmm.....![]()
