Your go to gopher cartridge?

.22 lr hollow point in whatever I happen to have in the bag. Next is 12 ga. of any old kind. I have just barely used a CZ 455 in 17 HMR, mostly because the gopher population has taken a dive lately.

It is good for the soul to load your pockets with as many 12 ga. as you can and saunter along in a good gopher patch and shoot until you get the jitters. Chases away the evil spirits from your body. :p

A good old gunner buddy and I spent two hours one nice morning shooting gophers with shotguns in an abandoned farm yard. It always strikes me funny to hear shotgun blasts from behind another building. I must be a bit crazy...:xes

.17 HMR out of my Savage heavy barrel tuned with a Timmy trigger. Love that thing. If I can see any part of that gopher out to 200, its dead. Just remember to put an good scope on it

Lots of votes for the rimfires, and I can see why. I love my hornet, but you can burn through a lot of hours worth of handloading in a few minutes in a hot gopher patch. I need to get the scope back on my JR carbine. With cast bullets it's cheap and fast to handload for. Looking forward to letting it loose on those furry lille dirt rats.

.17 hmr or 22 LR, rimfires are classic gopher cartridges....gotta keep the tradition alive.
How can a 12yr old cartridge be a Classic? Classic cartridges for gophers would be .22S, .22L, .22LR, or .22WM.
Then, maybe the .22 Hornet and the .220 Swift. Takes more than a decade +/- to make a cartridge a "Classic". That'd be like calling a .204 Ruger a "classic" even though I think the .204 will be around a long time.

My record, verified by a shooting buddy, was 165yds. Shooting a Stevens 300 with Winchester wildcats. Cheap river trail 3-9x 32 scope. Off of a bipod. Of course, it helped a lot that it was the first time the field had been shot so the gopher politely stood there while I shot all around it, there was almost no wind, and it took me 5 rounds to dial in the hold over and windage.

we do not have them little fellows done here ,but for are ground hogs it is the 22 win mag and the 22 250 for the long shots ,,thy can weigh in at over 10lbs so the 22 250 really blows them up ,,D
