What is your most successful deer hunting technique:

Sitting in a blind or tree stand calling?

Hiking around game trails?

Zipping around the bush in an ATV or 4x4 covering lots of ground?

or other?

They all work but like any thing else it is the right tool at the right time.

In august I do a lot of scouting.

i) Go out at dawn or dusk and find where they are.
ii) Do a lot of walking in these areas to find the travel and bedding areas.

1) Early season ( Sept archery ) I am up in a treestand
2) Mid season october (muzzleloader) I tend to sit at the edge of fields
3) Late season december ( rifle) I drive a fair bit and am much more mobile on
foot as the rut is on.

All three ways produce but it tend to fill my tags early as I have very good luck with my muzzle loader. I tend not to wait for Mr. Big as that is not my priority however I have taken some Mr. Bigs in all three seasons. You just never know.

As I get older I don't like that -20 or colder weather so I put most of my time in Sept and October during the evening hunts. Cold and early mornings are for the young;)

All things considered I've shot and seen more deer while sitting than if I am moving regardless of if you are on foot or in a vehicle. I would hazard a guess that in my part of the country most deer are taken by road warriors.

depends what your definition of successful is.

Want to fill tags? push bush and move around.

Want to bag a trophy? still hunting all the way. do your research and get some good positions set up....put in the time on stand and you will be rewarded. But be prepared to pass up easy ones LOL

This, and have pictures to prove it:

Out at first light or before preferably and still hunting if the area is known. Around home we have found it better to let the game stick to their routine and try to intercept. Pushing them has not filled a single tag in many years of hunting, they get nocturnal too fast.

Learning to slow down during the day has yeilded some great results too.

Lots of preseason scouting and then a tree stand or ground blind. Dress for the weather and stay in your stand as long as possible. I've shot lots of deer between 10:00 am and Noon.

Last year we drove around until we saw a deer on the logging roads. Took us about 20 minutes, so that worked out alright.

I also didn't realize that taking the bayo off a mosin 1944 carbine makes it shoot 4 inches off center, so I had to take a couple shots.

I've helped pushed bush for coyotes but never deer. Personally I don't find that really hunting. More of a slaughter.

My best results for hunting are when I go stalking solo in a place were I've done pre season scouting.
