** Your NEA102 build **

For the guys who think the barrel is super heavy, it's not bad. I took someone else's measurement as truth when they said "over 3lbs" a while back on here. That's not the case.

Factory barrel 2 lb 12.5 oz or 1.26 kg

Criterion Lightweight 18.5" barrel. 2 lbs 6.5 oz or 1.1 kg

So I only lost 6 oz with the Criterion. I think I'll gain some accuracy but that remains to be seen.

Basically, I lost 14 oz going to the SLR Helix 13.5" and another 6 oz with the barrel. You might be able to lose 2 oz with the Faxon light 20" but aside from that it's gonna have to be basically BCG and an oz here or there. Makes getting "around 7.0 lbs dry" like I thought before much more difficult.

why is this rifle so damn confusing

Because it's not an AR-15

A picture of the BCL tooling used to make the 102.

Lol, you may be giving them too much credit. :p

Then
My "first preorder" rifle was definitly not forged...
Now
I'm not 100% certain, but I am quite confident.

Perhaps sfrc can confirm. You could contact bcl with your serial number and find out I suppose. Otherwise I’m not sure how I can convince you that the initial batch was forged. Also not sure that it really matters.

Splitting hairs on that... I'm confident enough that mine was not forged to make that statement, but if I'm proven wrong I'll be the first to admit it.

SFRC also stated outright on this forum that they were not forged. Have a look at post 75 and onwards in the 11 Nov update thread.

In all honesty though, I don't really care. Was jist hoping to clear up a little confusion. Definitly don't care enough to get into an arguement over manufacturing methods. I sold mine cause I wanted (wanted, not needed) to free up capital for house renos. Doubt I'll be buying another one though, I don't miss it, and I enjoy shooting my other rifles more. I just follow these threads for the entertainment value.

Don't go too low - I have a pair of Leupold MK4 high rings that make the charging handle a bit of a pain to access. I usually have to set my scopes back closer to my eye than most so the ocular lens sits pretty close to the charging handle, you may not have the same issue.

whats a good height for rings to get?

i have some Burris signature mediums kicking around, but i think that they will be too short.

would something like these be better?

also thinking of going with a Vortex VIPER HST 4-16X44 SFP RIFLE SCOPE, VMR-1 RETICLE, MOA

I'm running a HST on my AR-10 with high ARMS rings. Perfect height, for clearance. Here is a picture of it on my 102.

I just got back from my local gunshop trying to get rings that fit the bill but no luck with their in stock sets, leupold prw high were the closest for my vx3 4.5-14x40, and worked fine at low power but just too short for higher power, couldn't get a clear site picture.

SSG69, those arms look pretty much perfect(except being 30mm :( ), I had a set kicking around a few years ago and finally sold them a year or two ago, never fails lol

Edit: RDSC has ATRS rings and they look pretty sweet.

The PRW highs are 1” high right?

The ATRS medium is 1” and the high is 1.2”. Looks like high might be the way to go.
