True but the others change the gas block location 1/4” so that the tube ends in the same location.

Armalite extended the tube because they used/use A2 handguards on some of their guns.

No. Apparently they are billet. Take everything we think we know about these firearms and forget it.

Question for people more in the know than myself. My 102 will be showing up someday (IOP buy), and I'm looking to swap out to an A2 fixed stock. I've got an A2 stock and buffer tube from a 597 VTR, my question is do I require a different buffer and spring as well?

You will need a .308 Rifle length buffer and Spring.

You will need a rifle length buffer tube, buffer and spring. Right now we have to throw out everything we thought we knew about these rifles since there have been changes and info previously provided by an NEA employee has been found to be incorrect. It was believed the 102 used Armalite AR10 spec carbine buffer tubes which are longer than the DPMS style , buffers and spring. Right now who knows as it seems there is more DPMS style compatibility than AR10. That being said going rifle length is fairly universal between AR10 and DPMS style while the carbine length isn’t.
