Your "perfect" antelope gun

And to see the 25-06 so popular I'm not surprised. When the animals are so small as is, the 25-06 would do the least meat damage with maximum performance. If I ever get the chance to build a nice LH 250 sav AI I would most likely shoot that for forever. Almost a 25-06, but odd and fun enough to satisfy all my desires!! If only the savage 99s were super accurate..... Then it would be like a dream come true!

If you go wildcat, a 6 Dasher is likely "the perfect" antelope caliber. Easy to tune, light recoil, and among the top for accuracy potential to 600yds. 105 gr Berger VLD (H) has great ballistics.

A .25-06 would seem to be a very appropriate choice for me as well. My problem is in what I have available in that way. I do have one, but at 13lb 3oz, it's geared more for use on varmints and preds at long range from stands.

Great photos, Johnn ! .... nice rifle too :)

For a retirement gift hunt, my Daughter & Son In Law took me for an Antelope hunt on draw in southern Alberta. From what I have available, a Schultz & Larsen in 7x61 S&H 'got the call'. Don't know why that was my choice ;) other than it was the 7x61's 'turn'.

Most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

We did well. Mine ;) is the 'cute' one in the middle:p. Great guides, great partners and a great experience.

Was out for a drive with the dad the other day, went out to shoot some gophers but that didn't pan out to well with the weather and whatnot, but we saw 12 speed-goats!

I know if we get drawn I'll be using it as an excuse to finally get my .257 Bee! There is also a .264 sako in the EE right now that would work rather well!

With all that said though, you can hunt them with a .30-30, they generally just stand there watching you.

My first big game animal was a pronghorn which I shot with my 303 Lee Enfield. On that hunt, it was the perfect antelope rifle. Stalked to within 75 yards and made a good, clean kill. If I decide to go for antelope again, I will use that Lee Enfield and I think it will still work OK.

I've taken them with a .270 (because it was a new gun that needed blooding!) and a .308 (because it was the only one the 'Murricans would let me bring into the country that year). No complaints. Of what I own, I think the .264WinMag would be the closest to perfect.

But my next one is going to be taken with a C.Sharps .45-70...not an ideal antelope rifle, perhaps, but just too cool! :)
