That really depends on what you needed or wanted the stock to do. Some need a heavier stock to help balance a rifle, some want a simple stock that locks up a little stronger, others want a stock with storage or a comfortable cheek rest.
TDC
I agree that "best" is pretty application-specific.
when I stated best, I guess was looking for something like : had STOCK1 on my ###XX, found it was GRIEF HERE because FEATURE was SHORT/LONG/TALL/FAT. Switched to STOCK2 because I liked FEATURE and found SECOND FEATURE to work better.
LMT SOPMOD & Vltor E-Mod.

I like CTR and UBR.
I have used both the six position stock and switched it out to a MagPul CTR. It's on an M4 platform and it is rock solid. I prefer the CTR as there is no wobble and it suits my needs nicely, especially when wearing tactical vests doing drills at the range. I keep it on position 2, I like it short so I can square up properly to my targets. The fit, feel and looks make the CTR perfect for my needs.
What stocks have you used, what were you doing with them, and which one was your personal favorite?
I will say that I would avoid stocks with locking mechs like the Magpul CTR. I've have personally seen the CTR and others break on at least dozen occasions when having to "mortar" an AR-15.
