"Never go moose hunting without a come-along!"

You go ahead and bring a come along on a back pack trip. I use what I can carry on my back. Period.

That particular moose was killed about 300 miles from any road and about 300 yards from the nearest tree or rock.

So I guess on my next trip I'll throw in a spool of cable as well. Maybe a 12000 pound winch and a couple batteries.

If Paul's barely caustic wit gets you lathered up you need to do some deep breathing. Besides, you'd only need a 1500 lb winch to drag that donkey in. But the batteries will be a bummer to pack.

Besides, he's from NB and the only time those guys leave the truck is to take a leak! :D

You had to pack that moose out 300 miles on your back? Peroid!

How many trips did it take or should I say months? :D

Not quite 300 miles, but guiding a backpack hunt leaves you fairly limited to what supplies are available.

Bottom line, that moose was getting caped and boned out under water with a utility knife. Which, BTW, stayed sharp the entire time. Which was the answer to the original post.
