Hi just wondering if anyone knows the meaning 1908shtle with a z stamped on right side of reciver and on barrel beside it thx for any info

A point: you should try using English. These run-on sentences (or whatever they might be) are very cool and interntese but not very readable.

1908 is the year the thing was made.

"ShtLE" means "Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield", which is the type of rifle that it is. Where you found that, there should also be a Crown, the letters "ER" (Edwardus Rex: King Edward), the name of the factory at which it was made..... and the model, which should be III.... which is a Roman 3. The Mark III Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle went into production in England at the end of January, 1907 and was produced into the 1960s in India.

The "Z" likely is a part of the serial number. It also COULD be an Armourer's warning, depending on how it is done. A clear photo or 3 would really help.

You are a Lucky Guy. There are very few 1908s surviving.

Ok point taken. Thx for the reply. The z is located above both serial #s on both barrel and reciever.Could it be somthing to do with the charge used? Like cordite etc?

Sounds like the serial number prefix (suffix if below or after the number) what manufacturer Enfield, BSA, LSA? should be marked above the 1908

1907 made by BSA with a U prefix serial number, ignore the lined out numbers as they are cancelled "rack" numbers, the U2007 is the s/n.

1904 made by ENFIELD with a G suffix serial number, note the G is below the s/n.

Ok it looks the same as the first pic. But a z and only one serial# . Thx Guess its just prefix . Its also a Bsa,

If a BSA then we need to see photos, a 1908 BSA MkIII should have a U prefix as they did not advance to the next letter till late 1911 early 1912, so sounds like it's been renumbered, or it's not the serial number.

1911 BSA MkIII with a U prefix

Rebarreled with a Enfield manufactued barrel & renumbered for some reason, could be to match the barrel number but the barrel date ('26) would (i think) rule that out.
Looks like some shadows of what could be the original s/n on the receiver, could be a U above the first 4 in the s/n???

Thank you 5thbatt.I had a better look at serials, but i cant see anything under them. The bolt also matches.Makes sence withe barrel change its also stamped gr, with crown. While the receiver is er with crown, proof marks im guessing
