Zastava m70 in 308

You are better off with a boyds or fn stock than a zastava one, definitely the weak point of the guns, along with finish on the metal

No issues with stocks on my Zastava LKM70 & Remington 798 rifles none have cracked using these for years. Got a Hogue OM stock for my .350 Rem Mag 798 bit lighter & rugged.

A friend from another site has a fondness for the 9.3x62. A little curious, I thought I 'needed' one and decided to go for it, in an 'inexpensive' package. I ordered a M-70 Zastava full wood Mannlicher style carbine in 9.3x62 from Tradex. In prep, I acquired a selection of bullets to do some load testing. Part of this from a local friend, was a quantity of new Lapua brass and PRVI 285gr bullets. I was amazed(y) at the accuracy of my first few loads using those 285gr PRVI!! So much so, I have yet to try any others. After those results, I decided I may need 'another' and picked up a identical 'mate' for the 9.3xc62, :)in 7x57.

So I went to adjust the trigger on this and noticed a bunch of red marks on the screws. I think it may have already been played with. The trigger is clocking in at 2lb 10oz. I’m not sure if that’s as low as it gets or if I should try and tune it more

Nothing wrong with a trigger that is set at 2lbs 10 oz. I would leave it alone. As long as it's crisp, breaks clean and doesn't creep.....:)

Personally I'd work on it by just shooting the heck out of it and getting used to it haha. Sounds good as it is!

The bluing on the M70s has bee great for me too, and the barrels/accuracy. Really come to expect they are gonna need minor tweaks but for the price, hey

I hummed and hawed for years, bolt guns were never really my thing. Now my tastes have changed and I regret not picking up a few to screw around with. For the prices I have seen lately there are better projects. Hindsight...

I now have three Zastava rifles - 8x57, 7x57, 7.62x39. The M85 x39 is a bit sloppy to work the action, but I'm not going to the Olympics anymore, so I enjoy shooting it anyway. I haven't fired the 7x57, but it came with 84 rounds of S7B 173gr SP, so maybe fired 16 rounds. Both the M70's are nice looking rifles and actions work nice.

I had to polish the channel for the bolt. Very gritty. Wet sanded it. Now slides quite smooth. Not as smooth as my rem700. But getting there. I think a few 100 cycles should smooth it out more.

Just got back from the range. I did another ladder test starting at 27gr of IMR3031 and working up to 28 in .2 increments. 28 still the best group. Will now try and work up to 29.
