Zastava P10?

I have satisfied myself that full power loads in this pistol are uncomfortable (painful). I made up some full power 180 gr XTP rounds and the 50 should last me a lifetime.

Now I am looking for an accurate plinker.

I have tried Power Pistol. LongShot, AA9 and IMR Blue. Power Pistol was terrible.

The other powders have been tested at milder loads and I now have a load of each that is barely acceptable. They are comfortable, but accuracy is mediocre. I will work next on testing and tweaking.

Out of the box, the pistol shot very left for me, so I drifted the sight right. Looks like I over did it. Easy to adjust. At this time I am more concerned about group size than where they hit.

Testing was at 25 yards, shot standing, 2 hands.

Of this selection, the IMR Blue was the mildest load and the 13.5 AA9 was the hottest.

Have you tried heavier 200 gr. Bullets.
Maybe some 165 gr.
Those 180 gr sure look like buck shot.

Tite group was okay with my 180 in the colt delta and kimber.
Kewl little pistol ,,, have fun finding an accurate load.

The journey is half the fun to accurate plinking ammo.
To bad brass ain't cheap

My replacement has shipped! Looking forward to trying it out again and get back to reloading for it. Fingers crossed this one will be a semi-automatic

Usually when there's a gun I want, but don't need, I just wait for them to sell out.

But it's been months(it seems), and these things are still in stock!

What's a fella to do? My resistance is getting low.:)

OK. Went to the range today to make a final test to see what load I will use.

After testing I chonyed the ammo.

The best grouping load is 13.5g of AA9. This turned out to be 1200 fps and felt too stout for long shooting sessions.

11.0gr of IMR Blue was also good, and a more mild 1040 fps. (All testing was with 180 gr plated RN bullets). This load is pleasant to shoot, but is only a hot 40 S&W velocity.

I will clean up my brass and load it 50 - 50 with these 2 loads.

Still waiting for my Reg. certificate to go to the range...☹☹☹☹ Didn't the 10mm service loads eventually devolve into a relatively mild-powered round, and then mutate into the .40S&W? That would make sense for a relatively light service sidearm.

I shoot, on average, twice a week. Have been doing so for about 50 years. Never been asked to produce a reg cert. Not even once.

Nice. That's impressive.

So I finally got out to the range with my Zastava. I didn't do a long session with it., but I got through a few mags. The trigger on this piece is darn heavy, plus I'm rusty from not shooting much over the last 18 months or so...so please don't mock my crappy 'groups'.

First target was 10 rounds of aluminum Blazer I had kicking around...5 in each mag. Function was perfect...no double fires, slide locked back on empty just fine.

Next I put in some Remington 10mm target loads...again function was 100%

And a second string...

Finally, Just for fun, I loaded two mags of Centaur 40S&W reloads...again, the gun worked perfectly, no doubles, slide lock.

Final thoughts. This is a pretty decent service-grade pistol...function was flawless. However the heavy trigger definitely needs work, or at least working in. Recoil with the 10mm ammo was substantial, but would be manageable with practice. The 40S&W worked surprisingly [?] well, recoil was very moderate...I might speculate that these guns were designed with the attenuated 10mm service ammo in mind. Possibly this was why they were shelved when the 40S&W guns became popular in the mid-90's...full-power loads would be a tough sell to the troops they were designed for. I don't know if a steady diet of 40S&W cartridges would be a problem in this gun, and it seems a bit of stretch to load down 10mm brass for casual shooting. Still, anybody wanting a cheap 10mm, or a fun challenge would probably enjoy shooting it.

Not sure how many still following my saga but...

My replacement P10 came. Much darker wood than my first one (recall my first one would go full auto - sent back under warrantee and received a replacement). New unit SN is 91X while my first was was 84X.

Put through a box of Blazer 180gr (SPP) and a box of Remington 180gr (LPP) and no issues (other than the trigger pull feel very heavy). I can hit the paper at 7 yards but not at 20 yards (yet). Will give it a good cleaning and start shooting my handloads (180gr Campro with Blue Dot powder). Looking forward to consistently hitting the paper!
