I recently acquired this this rifle second hand and it came with unopened Weaver 55 and 20A bases which I believe are the recommended bases for for commercial Mauser actions.
I wend to mount them the other night and noticed that the screws in the rear base protrude a mil to long into the bolt are to the point that the bolt wont go in unless the screws are loosened so much that the base is loose.
Obviously I don't want to remove the bolt every time to clean the bore or inspect an obstruction.

I swapped the screws for the front base and they work but only engage a couple of rotations and one of the rear screws in the front base wont seat fully.
Secondly it seems that the rear and front base don't sit flush in line with each other.

With me holding the square flush with the rear base.

With a square sitting across both bases.
If anyone could shed some light on this for me I would be greatly appreciative as I bought this for deer season and am hoping to get out weekend after next.
I had just assumed that the bases fit no problem so didn't mount them until last night.
They're not great pictures, just hoping someone with more experience can offer some advice.
