Hey fellow Nutz! As with the rest of miscreants, I am interested in shooting zombies, or at least being prepared for the invasion. Anyway, a friend and I have been talking about putting on a zombie action shoot at our local range just outside of Edmonton. We are thinking along the lines of 5 zombie targets, 2 mags of 3 rounds each (mandatory reload, only 1 miss possible), possible 'friendlies,' a start line with gun and loose ammo on a table, constantly moving up the target line, etc. What do you think? Obviously, headshots only would count, miss any targets and you are dead. If you stop at any point along the way, you are dead. My thoughts are that you may choose whatever weapon you want, handgun, shotgun (slugs or buckshot only), or semi-auto rifle - but always with only 3 rounds per mag, 2 mags only, with the only exception being the shotgun (if it is tube-fed, of course). Thoughts??? I could also use ideas about targets - I am thinking about a metal post on a base (to make it moveable), a cardboard 'body' and some sort of head; a balloon, a styrofoam mannequin head, an angled metal plate, . . . We are planning to pull each shooter aside out of view of the range, then move the targets into different places before the shoot.

My suggestion: to put pistols, revolvers and rifles on a more or less level playing field, make it 2 mags or speed loaders of 5 rounds each.

or

Allow as many max capacity mags as the player can carry, and have a good 15 or 20 targets per stage, now thats zombie shooting with lots of reloads. Make it mandatory that players hit the target 2 to the body and 1 to the head or 2 to the head only.

Well, your suggestion on trying to get the different weapon types on a more level playing field would be good if it wasn't for the fact that we don't want that. We are trying to keep this from being 'ISPCed,' this is strictly for fun, not high competition. Also, in that we only have the walk from the bench towards to target butts at 100 meters, we won't be able to have too many targets. As well, that starts getting pricey with the type of targets, unless we go with balloons. We'll see, we have some definite ideas, but are looking for input. Our idea is to keep things as simple as possible for the first shoot, to make sure it actually happens; perhaps more 'stuff' next time . . .

Lol...how about just a couple of empty mag and loose rounds. For the revolver guys (to make it fair) a bunch of loose rounds and a couple of speedloaders ;)

In the Zombocalypse I'd have multiple magazines and carry boxes of ammo in a back pack to reload those mags!

Double tapping then head shots would be a bit wasteful, just head shots, reactive falling target would be great. Sounds like a lot of fun.

You can download ZOMBIE style targets. Get them printed on 11.5 x 17 paper and you are good to go.

I like the general idea of that, but I see a lot of logistical problems. For instance, if we give away a prize for the postal winner, how do we charge for that, since they have already paid at their local range? Also, in this shoot, the idea is to be able to see that each shot you take makes a 'kill,' so that you are able to move on to the next target. Having the target as paper makes this difficult, and we are after quick target acquisition and dispatch, not high quality marksmanship.
I am thinking more along the lines of making up an official rules list, organizer's instruction sheet, and RSO's responsibilities list, and then make them available to anyone else who would like to put on one of these shoots. I suppose that we could always then post the best results on CGN for braggin' rights afterwards. I would also want to segregate those into type of weapon used, for knowledge only. Maybe we could get some patches made up that would say, "Zombie-Abatement Force - Point Man," or some such nonsense.

True, but we are going more with the, 'you just woke up and zombies attacked and you don't have time to grab your gear, just the (pistol, shotgun, or rifle) that is on the table and get to safety,' type of backstory. This way, a person doesn't need to be all tac'ed up for the evil dead, anyone can give it a try. After all, things like the Zombocalypse make heroes out of everyday people, right?

If some one is going to do this around the GTA area you can put me on the list. Looks like a .22 with a red dot would be perfect for this competition.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure we'll be limiting the entrants to centrefire only. After all, you have to make sure spray rotted brains all over the place, and the .22 LR doesn't have enough 'umph' to be sure.

I think 3 or 4 would do the job, also it would make it more chalenging to get 4 head shots on one target.

22? WTF?

40 cal min pistols
00 Buck min shottie
30 cal min rifle

Make it a 3 gun event and you could charge people 50 bucks or more if you get the right target setup.

Thinkin' max distance about 15-20 yards for any discipline. Tax slug load for shottie posi ility.

If there was a lot of targets and lots of shooting I would attend.

20 cents a shot and used world wide for killing everything! Forget your lil toy 22 LOL!

That's 1120 zombies down for $200 plus tax! Pretty good numbers I'd say.
