I hope to know by the end of this week what the dates of the shoot will be. The patches have been ordered as well, so things are coming along nicely. I am also looking into targets for a zombie sniper match that would likely start next year in conjunction with this shoot, and possibly even later this year. I expect this shoot, however, to be much less structured and more informal, likely a postal match as well. We will see what sort of funds we have left over from the action shoot, as well as what sort of response we get.

Just a safety thought that I'm not sure is valid or not....

Zombie kills need to be done to the head, we ALL know that... :D But if the shooter is shorter of stature and the zombie is tall we're going to end up with the need to aim upwards to make the point. Seems like that could run the risk of bullets being angled such that they could clear the berms of some of the ranges I've seen so far if the shooter is at the right point in the shooting area. So perhaps there's a need to limit the targets to shorter hunched over zombies?

As a matter of fact you are correct, and I have already limited the maximum height of zombie targets to be 5'8". On the Genesee range, we have 7 m high berms on 3 sides of the 100m range, so it should not be any problem. I cannot vouch for other ranges that this competition might be run on, but those organizers would be able to adjust height accordingly for safety. Thanks for thinking, you never know when someone will think of something that we missed!

Tentative dates

It looks like we are going to be holding the shoot on August 1 (Sat.) and August 9 (Sun.). We will likely be running from 7 or 8 in the morning, right until close to dusk. I need to be clear that these shoots will not have rain-out dates, and we will be running in whatever weather, as nothing will stop the zombies, so we need to be ready, too. More updates to be posted soon. I expect to post an update with entry fees this coming Tuesday.

Yeah, we just figured it would be good to have 2 days of shooting opportunities, to allow some people to make it that might be busy on one day. It also allows for people to possibly do it more than once, though we plan on keeping track of those that enter, and will put them in the 'stand-by' list for the second day, to allow people who have not shot yet to get in. Hope to see you there, and make sure you introduce yourself!

Sounds like a lot of fun. I was out with a friend and we were using clay targets to try to make reactive targets (my range only allows paper, cardboard and clay). Mixed results, but a few tweaks and it should work well. I like the balloon idea, though.

We are actually not going to be using balloons anymore. We have made up some printed targets, and there will be a kill zone that is scored.

Awwww..... it's just not the same as seeing the "heads" blow up. In fact the PERFECT zombie sim target would be a balloon filled with green goo of some form such as dish detergent. After all, EVERYONE knows that when you turn zombie your blood turns green, right? :D
