Zyoptix Lasik eye surgery

I had Lasik done at the Eye Institute of the Ottawa Hospital, these are the guys that fix up problems caused by other clinics. My doctor told me that the only way you are going to get the flap to come loose is if you get a finger jammed in your eye. PRK was the first and Lasik came later because people were complaining about the pain.

Only 3 doctors at the LASIK centre I went to perform the procedures. When did this happen?

I am in the Toronto Area. This was 2 years ago.
The toronto Lasik center lists 8 doctors including 3 of them that have only done 5,000 ocular (means nothing) procedures TOGETHER!!

Can you say guinea pigs.

Are you in N.B ?? Look at the 3 doctors... 2 of them have 5,000 ocular procedures....the other says 15,000 but he is old and was a cataract surgeon, what has that got to do with operating a laser to reshape your eye.

My beef with Lasik is they are not forthcoming with the true experience of there doctors in regards to the actual laser eye surgery. At lot of the clinic list the same main doctor...like they actually work at all the clinics all the time.

yeah take the painkiller and sleep for the first 24hours, and all will be good. don't take the painkiller and suffer!

I drove my brother down and back again for the follow up a couple of days later. At the follow up the receptionist asked how he was doing. He said that it was a bit painful at first. She said the pain killers should have controlled the pain. My brother asked "what pain killers?" They forgot to give him any! She quickly rushed to get some for him. He said don't bother, it was much better now.

He said he did hate the smell. He said it smelled like burnt hair. Knowing it is from your eyeball is a bit disturbing. He was pleased with the results. I'm too sh*t scared to have anyone f*ck with my eyes.

I went to Lasik MD in Mississauga to have mine done a few years back, and it was the best money I've ever spent. 20/20 in one eye, and better in the other. Just use the drops to prevent your eyes from drying out, and you'll be fine.

Whole procedure took about 10 minutes, followed by 30-45 minutes of recovery in their waiting room, and I drove myself home.

zyoptix

Had mine done by Visionmed in Van April of 05. Had fairly strong astimagtism and some nearsightedness, now 20/20 in left, 20/25 in right, combined is 20/20. Had Zyotix done. Itchy, dry eyes for a couple weeks, maybe a month, the cornea takes a while to totally smooth over again, but was it ever worth it! I believe the minimum they like to see is 5mm thickness on cornea, and your prescription should have been stable for several years, not much point in doing it if it is changing. Cornea is fastest healing tissue in human body, completely regenerates in 72 hours, I know that first hand after burning mine completely off with some nasty chemical that i was dumb enough to get sprayed in my eyes a few months ago!
Night vision takes a while to fully come back 100%, I would say up to 6 months, everyone is different. Starbursts and Halos while night driving are the most noticeable effects, but go away with time.
You have to do multiple post-ops so they can track your progress and thereafter do a assessment once a year, it is for your benefit so you can get a touch up done if needed...free of charge!
Best money I ever spent...

Yeah, it is 5 years free touch up and check-ups included with the price.
I actually went to TLC to compare prices and service, they seemed very helpfull at TLC, but did do a lot of tests. I am scheduled for Thursday now at Lasik MD. Too be honest, I am getting really sick of wearing glasses all the time. Shooting eyeglass prescriptions, sunglass prescription....not fun. Guess I am going to have to get some cool shooting eyewear.

DOne. seeing halo around lighted objects...but not seeing double. My right eye is seeing great , my other is not as great, but better/

Glad it went well. By now your vision should be pretty much normal...of course with halos and such.

Just keep 'em moist. Don't rub them. And enjoy.

Corticosteroid drops (I'm on the 'roids-LOL!)
Anti-bacterial drops
artificial tears, Tears Ultra, and some oil/ petroleum based lube (!)
Not back to 100%, but getting better. Vision got blurred a few times in the car due to the defog, made my eyes very dry,.etc.. Lots of drops going in every hour. Still have halo's around lights, but I will check on this at my one week appointment. 5 years free appointments and touch-ups if needed. (ie: regression for my level of extreme astigmatism is 30%), so might need it.

They gave me a white tubed product with a lot number on it,...and said this is to freeze your eyes if I encounter a lot of pain at home. ....didn't need it, but used it anyway once.

almost ready

Now I 'm 50 /50 on which treatment. I get migraines where my vision goes wonky for a short time, would either treatment make a diference? Being an avid IPSC shooter and hunter what would be the best time of year to do this? Thanks guys.

I am thinking now is the time to do it, only a few indoor shoots over the next few months...Hunting big game is over in this area. PRK or RPK was not recommended by either TLC or Lasik MD over Lasik...I asked and explained shooting sports and my occupation....they still said Lasik was the way to go.

One week checkup, right eye is extremely improved. Left eye only slightly improved. Too early to tell if I will need a touch-up. Left eye still has some minor swelling, which may account for only minor improvement. Fluid from so much material removed may be causing the lack of improvement.

Due to me extremely high astigmatism, the chance of regression is at about 30%.
Got my Sunbusters today. Weird that I don't need glasses to make out my front sight well!!

I went to LASIK in Toronto for a consultation and scheduled a procedure. Afterwards, I felt slightly uncomfortable.
The next day I went to TLC and found out why.
DO NOT GO TO LASIK!!!!
The Lasik centers use doctors in training and doctors who want to learn how to do the procedure call up a Lasik center.
The doctor Lasik had asigned to me was listed as having 4000 ocular procedures to her credit. I called Lasik to confirm that they were actually LASIK procedures...they couldn't! I asked how many she had done..They couldn't! I asked what ocular procedures meant....they couldn't tell me...
I Cancelled my procedure on the spot.

TLC also sells their old equipment to LASIK. That is why the never say they have the latest tech.
TLC does. When LAsik is cutting your eye open and saying they will reshape it at 50,000 points, TLC will do it better and safer and reshape 500,000 points.

Is this an ad for TLC. No, but they are your eyes. There is no going back.
Look at the list of doctors at each clinic.
only 3 guys do it at TLC....and 3 only. Not the doctor of the month.
TLC also states the doctors have done 40,000 or 30,000 Laser eye surgeries.
Not like Lasik who use a blanket Ocular procedure which could mean anything, including rinsing out someones eye if they have dirt in it and a basic eye exam. (that really makes me happy they are cutting open my eye)

TLC was Cleaner, friendlier and more professional.
I shudder sometimes thinking what might have happened if I did go and get butchered at Lasik.

I would (and did) a bit more research on this. There is a huge propaganda war between TLC, Bauchner and Lasik in Toronto. If TLC said something bad about Lasik, it was not the first time:

http://www.goldsparks.net/

From the article:
Lasik Vision Corporation was a competitor of TLC, who sued TLC executives for engaging in a conspiracy to drive Lasik Vision Corp. out of business through illegal means.

Don't know who is right, but there are some questionable business practices in the industry.

what made me go running back to Lasik MD was a few things,....not to mention they (the workers,.technicians,.staff at TLC),....told me I could be active and "go swimming, sky-diving,....etc..", just weeks after I would have the procedure. I went back to Lasik and mentioned this,...the people there both said they would not talk negatively about TLC, but asked, " would you want to go swimming in a pool and take the chance of something getting in your eye a few weeks after your corneal flap was cut?"...."chemicals and bacteria in the pool,..."...
