Am I the only one that wont run cheap ammo such as Norc through my AR?

I would also like to warn everyone not to use ammo made by these makers, and others, as there are many stories of factory ammo failures, and they obviously make garbage. I no longer shoot my guns, as it is much too risky. I go to the range, yell "Bang!", and makes holes in the targets with a stick when I check them. My groups have shrunk, my flinch is gone, my costs are reduced, and I don't scare the fauna that like to wander onto the range. Does anyone know if me whispering bang qualifies as a silencer?

There are some pretty consistent and freaky failures with Norinco ammo...

Haha how long did it take to find those links...
You hear WAY more horror stories of Norinco than any other brand, of course every company is gonna have their odd lemon. Just Norinco seems to produce way more lemons than most.

Priceless!

Until someone posts up some actual observed failure rates over many thousands of rounds of fired ammunition, all we know is that Norinco, like every brand, has some problems.

....Norinco seems to produce way more lemons than most.

That may in fact be true but we have to consider how much of the Norinco 223 ammo has been shot over the past couple of years compared to other brands of 223. Is it 5:1? 10:1? 100:1? It's hard to say but consider the following points.
Fact: there has been a sh!t-tonne of Norinco 223 sold in the past 2 years!
Fact: those that bought it tend to shoot a lot of it because it's cheap!

The number of Norinco 223 "lemons" in relation to number of rounds fired might not be much different than the other brands of 223. For example, If 10X as much norc than AE gets shot, one could read 10X as many "lemon" posts on CGN and the failure rate would be exactly the same. Just food for thought.

Btw, nice work 5440fight :)

Haha, hilarious post. I don't think you should whisper or your mouth might be classified as a prohibited device :)

best part is you never have to clean your guns!

Something to consider is the quality and rarity of the barrel you're using.
Brapp306 is using a 16" noveske lightweight barrel in a bcm/vltor/noveske build.
I used to own that rifle and went so far as to build another upper with a cheaper, more common barrel for use with norinco ammo. The dd chf barrel used in that upper was easy enough to source that replacing it wouldn't be hard.
That noveske barrel is a sub moa work of art, a waste to chew it up with randomly sized projectiles.
Same goes for the bartlein/Herron barrel on my acr.

If I wanted something precious to save in a vault and keep in pristine condition I would collect fine China.

I don't know why anyone would treat a gun made for combat like it's a delicate unicorn tear drop.

If you're too scared to get your AR dirty, you should probably look at a different hobby.

I've shot some Norinco ammo through my 14.5" SS Noveske Afghan with no noticeable degradation.
It actually shoots Norinco at around 1.5moa.

I like cleaning my guns. It's the only excuse I have, when my wife walks in on me drinking beer, caressing a gun while I mutter sweet nothings into the magwell...

"Oh you like that, don't you? You're a dirty, dirty gun, that likes to bang. What's that? You wish your selector could go all the way? Me too, baby..."

-Nothing dear! Be done in a minute, just cleaning!

Yes you have to compare number of failures per rounds fired or it wont mean a thing. One time the safety dept where I worked concluded that working at night was actually safer than working in the daytime because there were slightly less TOTAL accidents on the night shift than on the day shift............we rarely work at night so when you compared accidents per man hour worked it was actually like 5 times worse but they refused to acknowledge this lol.

i find a lot of the horror stories, at least the ones i've read, regarding norc ammo seems to be with people running really short barreled ARs. This leads me to think that the ammo is mostly fine and is well within the safety margin of a properly timed rifle. The problem although may originate from the ammo but is exacerbated and only becomes an actual problem in poorly timed rifles.

thats just a theory based on the few threads i've come across though. short barrel seems to be a common thing amongst the horror stories.

Meh. I've run 3 or 4 hundred rounds of it through my Mini 14 and AR. Shoots really well. No malfunctions. Affordable.

I have shot 1000's of Norc .223 through my rifles, mostly mini 14's and have never had even a hangfire. I have reloaded some of the brass many times without issue. I will buy more of it when I can.

What you're not taking in to consideration is that some of the ammo burned through the barrel before the test was completed, and other members here have reported accelerated wear from using Norc ammo. If your barrel should last 20,000 rounds and Norc is wearing through it in 5,000, you are saving significantly less than you think. In addition, if you are running something that isn't an AR and barrel replacements are $500-$1000, when combined with a shorter barrel life, you're not saving any money. When also factoring in a decrease in accuracy and more wear on other parts of the rifle from the hotter Norc rounds, it's really not worth it.

You need to read the whole thing.

Replacement cost are factored in a two different intervals and its still less than the cost of other ammo.

You may be correct about non AR platforms. I don't know enough about the costs involved to comment on those.

I put Norinco ammo through almost all my .223... even my .308 with no problem at all. I love Norinco ammo, it's cheap & it works!!

Cheers,
