You hear WAY more horror stories of Norinco than any other brand, of course every company is gonna have their odd lemon. Just Norinco seems to produce way more lemons than most.

That may in fact be true but we have to consider how much of the Norinco 223 ammo has been shot over the past couple of years compared to other brands of 223. Is it 5:1? 10:1? 100:1? It's hard to say but consider the following points.
Fact: there has been a sh!t-tonne of Norinco 223 sold in the past 2 years!
Fact: those that bought it tend to shoot a lot of it because it's cheap!
The number of Norinco 223 "lemons" in relation to number of rounds fired might not be much different than the other brands of 223. For example, If 10X as much norc than AE gets shot, one could read 10X as many "lemon" posts on CGN and the failure rate would be exactly the same. Just food for thought.

Something to consider is the quality and rarity of the barrel you're using.
Brapp306 is using a 16" noveske lightweight barrel in a bcm/vltor/noveske build.
I used to own that rifle and went so far as to build another upper with a cheaper, more common barrel for use with norinco ammo. The dd chf barrel used in that upper was easy enough to source that replacing it wouldn't be hard.
That noveske barrel is a sub moa work of art, a waste to chew it up with randomly sized projectiles.
Same goes for the bartlein/Herron barrel on my acr.

If I wanted something precious to save in a vault and keep in pristine condition I would collect fine China.
I don't know why anyone would treat a gun made for combat like it's a delicate unicorn tear drop.

I like cleaning my guns. It's the only excuse I have, when my wife walks in on me drinking beer, caressing a gun while I mutter sweet nothings into the magwell...

Yes you have to compare number of failures per rounds fired or it wont mean a thing. One time the safety dept where I worked concluded that working at night was actually safer than working in the daytime because there were slightly less TOTAL accidents on the night shift than on the day shift............we rarely work at night so when you compared accidents per man hour worked it was actually like 5 times worse but they refused to acknowledge this lol.That may in fact be true but we have to consider how much of the Norinco 223 ammo has been shot over the past couple of years compared to other brands of 223. i find a lot of the horror stories, at least the ones i've read, regarding norc ammo seems to be with people running really short barreled ARs. This leads me to think that the ammo is mostly fine and is well within the safety margin of a properly timed rifle. The problem although may originate from the ammo but is exacerbated and only becomes an actual problem in poorly timed rifles.

You need to read the whole thing.
Replacement cost are factored in a two different intervals and its still less than the cost of other ammo.
You may be correct about non AR platforms. I don't know enough about the costs involved to comment on those.
