In the event of a catastrophic failure with T97?

I would be more worried about a 50BMG bullpup going kaboom than a .223.

That being said, I'd be interested to see if anyone has $1000 (maybe a reseller ?) to blow in a torture test (overpressured cartridge, wrong powder, barrel obstruction...).

The fact of the matter is that KB's can happen in any style firearm. If you are really that concerned I would recommend you probably look into another sport..... which would be no different.

Everything we do has a certain element of risk to it. Don't let the worry dampen your experience. Just do what you enjoy and do a lot of it! If it's going to happen there is a good chance you won't see it coming anyway!

We could run a raffle. Sell 200 tickets for 15 bucks. Buy three t97s. Blow a couple up on video at some kind of CGN t97 party and give the last rifle away to the winner of a draw?

My t97 has mis fed with lar mags where te round gets pushed into the casing. The first time that happened it scared the #### out of me. What woul happen if it detonated in that position out of chamber?

That's called blissful ignorance.

This is what can actually happen with a plastic receiver:

Hmm.. if this was a T97, where would your face be?

Your blatant ignorance of the T97's design shines through in this post. If you actually saw how the thing is constructed, you would know that the receiver is not plastic. There is a small, but solid steel, blast shield on the left hand side of the barrel extension that extends rearwards from the chamber. It's not large, but it should be large enough to direct the majority of the blast away from the user.

The rifle would blow up. The only question we are debating is which way the shrapnel goes and whether your head would be in that direction.

I just took the butt off mine and held the rifle up to firing position. That metal may protect my head, but it looks like it is going to focus the blast on my right wrist.

Also, even if the blast goes out through the mag well, in a bullpup that is still awfully close to my body, as it is to the rear of the trigger unlike a conventional rifle where the blast would exit in front of my right hand.

Someone should create a site similar to kickstarter.
Someone suggests a firearm to blow up and everyone pitches in $5.00.
When the target is reached the gun is purchased and blown up and video taped.

I'm not ignorant of it. Someone else (forget who) talked about it in this thread. Wasn't it like 1.5" long? Good thing my face and body is only 1" wide or else I'd be in trouble!

LOL!

We are scaring ourselves, and others, with this "what if". Try a magnum rifle failure, this is really something, in any rifle

How long is a round? The point is that it covers the angles from the explosion towards your face. However, your right wrist looks to be in the blast path and depending on your stance your lower body may get hit by the blast out the mag well, which is closer to your body on a bullpup.

You are describing poor seated/crimped rounds. This can happen in any gun. My skorpion had a bullet drop right out of the casing, and lodge in the bore (American Eagle, I believe) . Now that would have been interesting, if I hadn't insisted on finding the ejected round, and examining it before chambering a new round. If the range had been busy, and I couldn't have stepped forward to find it, I would have blown up my new gun on day one. Keep in mind, the type 97nsr firing pin cannot protrude enough to strike a primer, without complete bolt lug lockup. This makes out of battery detonation remote, if not impossible. Perhaps if you managed to manually attempt to chamber a second round, and somehow managed to have the second round strike the primer of the first... seems to me that would be an operator error. After a "normal" feed issue with an Ar15, you check the chamber before you continue, the same would apply here.

Not every gun has a thread about filing feed ramps into your mag well to avoid it happening so much.

It would be good if we can pull off an event blowing up a t97 yo see how it falls. I trust that it has a good safetydressy design, but as the Russians like to say, "Trust. But verify."
