I hope they weren't planning on going up against modern Russian armour in that thing.
Even if fully restored and operational, its life expectancy would be measured in minutes.
Actually, the last time I looked, Ukraine had some pretty fine armoured units of its own.
Can't find the best vid at the mo', but anyone going to war in this old tank would be a sure-fire
winner of a "Darwin Award".

Hmmm, yeah... There are vids posted of T-34s discovered sunken into swamps in Finland for 70 years that have been pulled out, given new batteries, and started up
within hours of seeing the light of day.

I can somewhat effectively read Portuguese and thus stand corrected.

Boina verdes or boina vermielhas: all great guys, great history etc.

I still, for the life of me, cannot fathom the logic of that hat in that climate.

Those caps come in handy for lots of things in that type of terrain. They stop the bugs from getting into your hair, retain moisture for coolant as the sweat evaporates in the slight breeze and keep you head warm at night. Depending on how high the elevation is, the nights may be quite cool and even cold.

I think the cap is appropriate. It isn't as heavy as the toques we use here in the winter but is likely perfect for the local terrain.

Later Soviet tanks came with this designed in: you could spray fuel into the hot exhaust system to produce a dense white cloud.

That JSU-152 start-up is impressive, but it was nothing to do with "separatists" etc.
 
agreed the berets are also wool. they are also "regulation" and mostly "prized" and would, in circumstance, be worn in Hell.
but, if one looks at the recent past as pertains to tropical wars, I can find little evidence of this type of headgear.

I have a pretty good half assed collection of a ton of assorted pictures and things and this one stands out. WWII south pacific: check- nada, Chindits: check- (felt hat large brim- can understand the use), Malayan Emergency, Indochina, Congo...BAM !!!! OK I can recall a pick of a Selous Scout with a "lighter" version of the same

Don't you love all the armour they have for protection? Great view and field of fire though and little hinderance to dismounting. As for surviving mine blasts........

In this picture, HK21 beltfed MG, G3,and 3.5 inch bazooka.

Everyone was given a job and they readied themselves to act immediately.
Hence the rifle grenade already on the G3 muzzle with rifle grenade blank in the chamber ready for ambush.
