The AK- SKS kit ( little update post 440 2015-03-19)( less ABS more wood and metal)

great work, yeah the top handguard adapter needs a bit more work, but seeing how you've gotten everything bang on since the beginning, I'll let you work and hold off on the advice. Can't wait!

Beautiful choice of wood! Where did you get it from?

i found it on a website of a gunshop on this side of the border , i will not name it here because they are not a dealer here ,

i got some new about the stock they should get it in the next week

holy Christ... how have I not come across this thread before?

Looks great. depending on the price point I will almost certainly be in for one or even two. Any idea of if this kit should fit on all sks makes and models? Ive had some issues in the past with Russian - Chinese stock changes.

gunna look so good with that wood kit! damn I think im going to buy a second sks now! hopefully big brother doesnt jump on this because its scary looking

Also another question...

when this kit is ready for production, do you intend to have it finished? Or will you ship it as bare metal for us to finish ourselves? If you do intend to put a finish on it, what were you thinking of?

edit: sorry, so many questions so little time! With the v.2 dust cover is it possible to have it drilled on top so pictinny rail can be mounted? or will it still interfere with the operation?

yes it will interfere with the operation if you try to had a rail on it , well for the finish right now i dont know ,before thinking of the finish i still have to complete 2-3 things

all depend of the price too , more operation = more $$$ my goal was to simplify at the maximum every part , to have less operation on everything

Why not just 3d printed t the whole kit then instead of getting a machine shop to make new dyes and tools for it??

I understand people want metal but realisticly how much are people willing to spend on a kit?!?!?!

I think most people would not want to spend much more than the price of the rifle on a kit for it. Having said that, for the diehards that want to set themselves apart, could stretch that a bit.

In some ways it's better In terms of operation than an ak. For example it would have a bolt hold open, ak doesn't. It would have a larger ejection port than an ak as well. Not to mention if it were in at around $200+- that would bring the total price at under $500, well below any vz58 or ak if they we're buyable here.

3D printing the kit would be unreasonably time consuming, and 3D printers don't have successful prints each time, even the slightest change in the environment can cause warping in the plastic, which can cause a catastrophic failure.
Furthermore, the long term durability would certainly be significantly less than that of a properly manufactured steel version.

Most importantly though, once he does have the tools and dies needed for manufacture, it will be far cheaper per unit kit than it would be to print it, of course he'll have to get back his costs for said tooling, however he'll pump out far more units through traditional manufacturing than he could ever dream of printing, offsetting the initial costs.
