Why is Brad Pitt manning a MG34?

Cant quite tell with the distance in the photo, but it almost looks like his collar tabs don't have any Sig Runes (SS) on them? Just the Pips indicating "Obersharfuehrer" (Senior Company Leader/ Company Sergeant Major)...

Perhaps he is a non-Germanic SS Legionnaire?

Also, RRCo. good eyes, spotting that Scoped K98. What an eclectic mix of weapons there! A Volksgewehr 5, and MG42, and a Low/High Turret? K98 Snipers Rifle.

And those 3 other guys are his Company...but it still looks impressive on the map in the Fuhrer Bunker!

Couple badass grunts! A thumper, and who sawed off that M-14?? Good times.

It sort of looks like they're riding shotgun in the back of a truck in a convoy. I suppose the M-14's stock got damaged, so he turned it into a pistol-grip shorty for a fast punch in close-in ambushes. That's okay though, because they still have at least one M-16 peaking out of the lower left corner of that photo - just to give them something to use in case that M-14 jams.

Someone should have warned them that smoking was bad for their health, though: if they don't watch it, those cigarettes will kill them...

For some reason I doubt they are riding shotgun on that convoy. Both of their displayed weapons are completely out of place for such a job and would likely just get a lot of people killed.

Those weapons are designed/modified for close in work, like destroying villages or road block situations. They aren't good for going into buildings either. Especially if there are more of their own troops around.

On the other hand, they are ideal for standing outside of a building and spraying it from the outside or lobbing a grenade into it.

They would also be useful on certain types of patrols where very close contact situations are likely and the superior firepower of the M14 is desirable. That M14 is full auto capable. That is an absolutely useless option under most combat conditions but there are situations where it could be very handy. Especially where the fore hand can be employed to hold down the barrel as it climbs and twists to the left during full auto fire.

"27 days and a wake-up. Why? How short are you?"

Haha, yeah. I made it thru my entire enlistment without smoking nicotine.
Those are 5 ton dumptrucks which makes me think they're combat engineers, the gruntiest of the grunts (ask me how I know). We once had a CO who insisted that M-14s be carried inside the turrets of our tanks. That's what mine looked like by the end of the first day of his little experiment-- c-c-CRUNCH!
The M-79 was good in the jungle.
M-16 as a back-up for an M-14?? That's funny!
The M-14 will not jam. :rey2
But the M-16 sure would. d:h:

I was wondering if someone would catch that ERROR- that was the era of 55 grain bullets, 1/12 twists, and too much calcium carbonate in the powder- ie the RED STUFF- and you never knew when the 16 would go full auto and weld the bolt shut- and no cleaning rods

Well, he and the Bastard's have been known to don German uniforms to ambush unsuspecting German soldiers.
The real star of Brad Pitts new movie (Fury) due out later this year (I think Oct) seen at the OverLord Museum first week of the month.

Movie seems to have some great action and they even used the Bovington Tiger in it

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, for some reason, I couldn't get my smileys to work when I posted that comment.

But hey, didn't the US Army fix the whole thing at the time by re-doing the M-16 maintenance manual as a comic book for easier reading? Oh ... and I think that's when they added the forward bolt assist too, isn't it?

Volkssturm rank - two pips = platoon leader.

Finally...A TANK MOVIE!

WHA...?? A real TANK MOVIE from Hollywood?? Be still, my racing heart! Das Boot? Memphis Belle?
Oh, please, please, please GET IT RIGHT!!!!
The trailer makes it look right. I think 'tank movies' have been difficult to make, since a lot of the real drama occurs on the inside, and that's
been tricky to film convincingly. The Russians did so recently with the release of "White Tiger" a few years ago. All you tank junkies seen that
already? It's available as a full-length feature on YouTube. Best tank move "EVER"... so far.

"The Beast" was one seriously good tank movie, or so I recall.
Sometimes time(decades)has a way of eroding the qualities one initially saw in something

Anyone see it?

Da! You make joke. Is good joke! ;)

The problem with the early M-16's (rushed into production & distribution) was "failure to extract". Compound that by having some pencil-neck allowing one cleaning rod per squad, and you can imagine the end result of a firefight against opponents armed with typically flawless AK-47s.
I've had friends tell me they grabbed up AKs at the first opportunity because their new Mattel wasn't worth a hoo-hoo.
I remember when they told us the new US Army rifle was going to be a plastic .22-- we all thought it was an April Fools' joke. "Seriously?"
That's about when I decided to quit. Now, here it is fifty years (!) on, and I hope they've finally worked all the bugs out of that platform,
because I'm just about to order one of the new ones for myself. f:P:
