We all need to dust them filthy moose killing machines every opportunity possible. They are super successful as a species and the only way to keep their populations in check is to shoot every one we can and hope every one else does as well. This will help some and will leave more moose and caribou (and I suppose deer) for a better balance and better meat hunting for us..........the ultimate predator !!

Everyone is going to need a 234 cartridge to assist them in this endeavor, as it is clearly the ultimate wolf killing machine ever invented and EVERYBODY who lives in wolf infested country should have at least one, maybe two !!!

So Douglas.... are we 100% on the XL7 action for the Hyrax?..... Will barrel have same contour as the factory?..... Looking at Boyd's and a nice classy nutmeg stock may be just the ticket... Unfortunately they do not do the initialing on the grip.... it is done below the action, but I have the where with all to do the engraving myself....

How many bullets can we get from Marshal and what is the cost?.... I would be willing to front some of the investment..... spend some time with Doug on the trigger, whack a wolf and a couple of yotes (and maybe some other critters who knows) and pass it on... Pictures, video, groupings, dead critters all to be posted here.....

No SB, it will be on the Marlin XS7 action actually, and I'm not sure about nutmeg.............actually just looked at their site and nutmeg isn't bad, I like the Fleur de' lis checkering pattern in the classic configuration, what were you thinking? Actually I really like the XX Claro but I know that's not what you meant..........Think the engraving on the side of the forend is a little gaudy, but then this rifle will be more for advertising so why not go for ......234 HYRAX.........Is this on both sides, or only one?

I like the fleur de lys as well.... reminds me of some of the older rems..... both sides may be a bit much?... thinking maybe on the action side where it is visible?.....

Flexible on the nutmeg.... it's your project Douglas and happy to contribute..... Would you prefer pepper?.... Classic stock I assume?

Yep, Classic, Fleur de' lis checkering, Nutmeg or Pepper is good, standard LOP and recoil pad is fine, what do you think about black forend tip and grip cap? I mean hey if we are going to be gauche, let's be totally gauche......Lettering on bolt side is fine............The barrel will be heavier than standard and 26", but I have the full set of barrel channel tools so it's no issue. Actually SB, I think pepper might be the better looking with the matte stainless barrel..........your thoughts.

Pepper it is..... I forgot the barrel was stainless..... I have an endcap one one of my Boyd's.... Bought it thinking it would resemble the endcaps on the old rem 700 bolts.... Trust me, it does not even come close....

Here you go.... The Rem endcap is longer and shinier than the Boyd's. Also, the Boyd's stocks are bulkier than an OE stock, so the shorter more wide endcap looks more like an afterthought than it does on the original rems.....

Hey SB, it ain't exactly AAA exhibition grade Circassian walnut..........and the you want to etch letting into the side of the forearm.........It will at least be consistently garish......:):)

Now now.... in my defence Douglas the forest camo turned out really nice on my 870 turkey gun..... and the nutmeg one that came stock on my Rem 799 is quite nice.... They don;t always turn out the way we want them..... LOL.....

PS..... I will need a headstamped casing to sink into the buttstock.... thanks.... bwahahahah

Now you have gone from garish to absolutely, unacceptably gauche................

Hello folks, sorry for the delayed response. This week I was running my annual Loughborough Lake Extravaganza and Male Healing Retreat (LLEMHR), which is a week of bass fishing on one of our best bass lakes. It was a good week, lots of fish although nothing big (same we heard from many anglers), and the male healing part was as successful as always.

I like the way this is shaping up, including the chance to do some loading (and shooting) for the HYRAX! :dancingbanana:

Welcome back.... Sounds like a decent trip...

Yes... sounds like the Hyrax will be heading our way... Loading and shooting to take place in one of my favorite Ontario cities, the birthplace of Sir John A Macdonald, followed by a trip North of Timmins for a Timberwolf hunt (Likely preceded by some yote practice in Glengarry)... Then turned over to you for your trip west... anyone else in this neck of the woods want a part of this action?
