HK is far from dying. The MG5 and MG4 contracts to replace MG3 in Germany will give them more than enough work for the years to come. They are also pumping out pistols and there are enough German and European PD contracts to go after.
Germany is knee deep into G36, it is not going anywhere. If they need any improvement or replacement, it will be HK's job anyways. In the special forces market, nothing can compete against the HK416 and 417 , especially in the EU.
And the French solicitation is really a race between HK 416/G36 ( the reason of the new rail as seen in HK243) and FN SCAR anyways since the French wants no bullpup no more. That is 90K units there over 5 years.
If I have to bet, Swiss arms ( not sig sauer ) will be the first to go under if the swiss government does not prop them up to maintain the capability.
