So what will be your next black rifle purchase?

Once my stinking 542 finally shows up, I've been saving away for a Colt Canada 15.3".

Interesting how times change...last year I was looking at completing an AR15 build from my spare parts (which I did, nice rifle by the way)...now I'm looking at getting the Aero M5 lower (or Palmetto PA10) and doing an AR10 build (again...my other is an Armalite SASS clone). And as always...waiting for that elusive HK 10.4" MR223. I know it will come one day.

Well I hope your right. I would love to see them stick around for a long long time. True they have good sales of pistols and the MP5 to law enforcement. SF sales are usually small in number just because SF elements are often small formations. That equates to small sales. The MG4 contract is complete to the German military. You don't make a lot of money on guns you already sold. The pending sale of a couple thousand units to Spain is all that HK sees in the near future for the MG4. What is an MG5? You have me there. I hope they get the sale to France. That would be a good contract for them. I don't think HK will have problems selling the G36 in the future after the smoke clears from the reports about it's performance in the sandbox. It is a good platform (or I wouldn't own my SL8/G36) and things said about it apply to all the plastic modern stuff. I have no doubt of your knowledge of the firearms community, their products, or their ongoing business dealings. I however am an investor, and have invested in the defence industry for almost 20 years. I make my judgments based on what I see from a financial view.

HK is far from dying. The MG5 and MG4 contracts to replace MG3 in Germany will give them more than enough work for the years to come. They are also pumping out pistols and there are enough German and European PD contracts to go after.

Germany is knee deep into G36, it is not going anywhere. If they need any improvement or replacement, it will be HK's job anyways. In the special forces market, nothing can compete against the HK416 and 417 , especially in the EU.

And the French solicitation is really a race between HK 416/G36 ( the reason of the new rail as seen in HK243) and FN SCAR anyways since the French wants no bullpup no more. That is 90K units there over 5 years.

If I have to bet, Swiss arms ( not sig sauer ) will be the first to go under if the swiss government does not prop them up to maintain the capability.
