Alright changed the name of the thread cause waterfowl season is comin up soon! This is the thread for everything that has to do with our obsession for mighty duck and goose. Pictures, stories, scouting methods post em up lads!

We need pictures of guns, ammo, decoys, boats, blinds, dogs, where you hunt just everything!

When I manage to find a camera I'll post up pictures of all my stuff!

Thanks guys gonna check em all out. While we're at it, what's everybody else usin on ducks as far as shot type/brand, gun, calls ect... Where's about everybody gonna be huntin? Swamp, marsh, beaver pond, lake ect... Specific type of duck? Should rename this the 2014-2015 waterfowl hunting discussion thread maybe?

Lawrys Shooting Sports is advertising Federal Speed Shok at $120/flat

I like the federal shotshells alot but my god they burn dirty, after bout 150 speed shok last year I literally had to scrape chunks of unburnt powder off the pistons of my Versamax with my jack knife, I mean rock hard lumps of coal. Bad batch maybe? I used them in my wingmaster when I was younger but that was a pump gun.

As for shotshells, i like the kent fast steel, bought a mix of everything from BB to #3shot, depends on the day and where i am hunting, if i can find federal speed shok i get those, everything else for me patterns like crap. Ive used hevi shot, it works well but at $30-35 per box its pricy and drops like lead, ive used the squared shot, it works well but pricey and not any better then reg steel. Also the federal black cloud has a crappy pattern and is intended so because the ring on the shot makes it expand, IMO its crap unless you are a newbie and bad with leads and it just makes a huge pattern like 3" or so at 35.

I've used kents I like em and found a good price on em a couple years ago but haven't used em since. As I said earlier the speed shoks pattern awesom but burn like pine gum. I used some black cloud later on last season and loved them, but they were expensive and burned just as dirty as the speed shoks. Also shot polar opposite of what you describe, if that duck was 20 yards or closer you best hit it in the head or high on the back straight on or away from you otherwise you might better just let the turtles and mudcats eat em cause its hamburg. Also with black cloud if you go any tighter then improved cylinder yer gonna start blowin the pattern unless the tighter choke is made for black cloud they're titanium coated chokes.

...used to use Remington...2 years ago i went with Ballistic Products reloads, Federal hulls, overshot cards, 6-crimp...never hammered ducks and geese like these using steel...distance + hard hitting...felt like back in the day we could use lead!

Loadin your own? I'd like to reload but as I've mentioned in other threads it scares me a bit and I'm man enough to admit it...Also man enough to admit I'm a big ol puss when it comes to to much kick from a gun haha.

For ducks over ponds and in ditches I use 2.75" rem sportsman #4. For ducks on the lake I use 2.75/3" #2 sportsman or Rio shells. For geese Rio star bb in 12 ga and federal premium 3.5" 1.75oz bb in 10 ga over big water and field hunting. I usually shoot last letting my buddies shoot more. I enjoy jumping ditches and small ponds for woodies and mallards with a light sxs. I hunt the south Shore of Lake St Claire and Mitchells bay for diving ducks and geese. I really like ruddies and blue bills. They're fun. Redheads and cans are the prime ducks.
For early and late season geese in the fields the sxs 10ga comes

Eh boy sxs 10 gauge you got some kohoonies! I shot one once...Never again! Hows them Rio shells work? Thought about buyin some today but ended up buyin a case of fasteel insted It'll do. Never seen a ruddy before I was sort of under the impression they was a rare breed. Squealers fly outta every puddle you walk past round here though.

got a case for this season ... we'll see how it goes.

Do keep us updated! If you put em on a pattering board post pictures I'm curious too see em work. I was gonna buy a case from a high sought after sponsor on this site, talked back and forth for a couple days gave em all my info they asked for yesterday had it all ready too go for today...Nope sold em out from under me to somebody else, nice bunch.
