Changed to 2014-2015 Wterfowl hunting thread!

Is there a problem with not doing that until you get home hours later? BC regs state that I have to transport it with one wing for ID. Some guys have mentioned that I should clean them immediately so they can cool off.
Thanks, this is a great thread.

There's 4 good ways too do it, personally I'd say just pluck the feathers off the breast bone peel the skin off and cut the breast meat off each side. But to each his own!

As long as it doesn't get too hot we will often hang ducks and geese for a day or more. I know on some of our early goose hunts we'll pull the feathers from the breast as soon as the birds are in hand and get them on ice to cool down and prevent spoiling.
Breasting out is simple enough to do and can be done so as to leave a wing attached, to keep it legal for transport anywhere in Canada.

Most new shooters shoot to early at geese. They're big and that makes them deceiving. Let them come in and pattern on their head and neck

When they're comin in and you can hear the zip of their feathers when they flap their wings you know you got em in the hole;)

As long as they ain't bakin in hot weather you're good to go brother, take the whole bird home and clean it up there. And if your woman don't like it...Tell her she's more than welcome to go sit outside till you're done:cool:

Working on building our new blind this year. The water is so high on Nipissing for this time of year our old posts and strapping are almost underwater.

I hear ya brother so much water this year, went to my main blind besides the floor bein 2 feet under water a muskrat decided to build a house on it. Come Octbober he'll be on a stretcher along with the blind floodin beavers!

T-9 hours till I leave for my goose opener. I can`t wait! I have Remington 3 inch BB and T steel shot to try out on them. :)

Haven't seen any in my area yet. Usually, they rest on the sandbars 400m from me. I'll let you know when they arrive.

Tonight is the first night I've heard geese on the river. I wonder if they are flocking for the winter, or just ganging up so they can properly destroy crops in the swaths.

I'm goin with the later, they're like beavers they move in and whack down a acre overnight. Destructive critters the pair of em! They're both mighty tasty though.

Usually a little later in September both Canada and White geese cover the fields up here. You litterally can't see the ground for birds. Propane powered goose cannons (noise makers) are used by some farmers until combining is finished.
I wonder how a goose cannon would effect thieves in the dark...

IT'S ON!!!!!!

Watched and heard flock after flock of new birds ride the front in yesterday, now I'm officially jazzed up and ready to make some feathers fly! Come on 27th!

why 27th? still open in southern ontario till sunday

Duck season man, not overly interested in shootin up my duck ponds at dirty old honkers till I can shoot ducks too. I was talkin bout ducks too seen lots of smaller groups on their way down, seen 2 groups of bout 20 teal today bombin around 2 different water holes.

Got an offer to go waterfowling with a buddy from work possibly as early as next weekend. Don't have much in the way of equipment really just my Norc 870 clone and a few boxes of Federal speed shok 2 3/4 BBs. Will probably grab a couple more boxes of a different size so I can switch it up depending on what exactly is showing up the most. Pretty stoked to get out for my first waterfowl hunt.

I twisted my knee Friday night so instead of going out on the lake I took my 6 month old mastiff pup for a slow walk down some ditches. No ducks but got some doves. She might turn into a very big bird dog. I'm going to take her goose hunting this weekend. She's certainly capable of retrieving geese

Don't know much bout the Norinco guns but anything that is built the same as a 870 isn't a bad thing. The 2-3/4" BB speed shok work great I used them in my 870 when first started duck huntin. Much luck on your adventure jongun!

Sorry to hear bout your knee brybenn but at least you got you some doves! Your pup sounds like she's gonna be a good bird dog.

Finally got into some birds tonight, managed 3 Ringnecks and a young drake Mallard. Managed those with only 6 shots imagine that!
