Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

Looking for a little advice on mounting my scope on the 1600 I picked up a month or two ago.
I picked up some new bases and rings and a lapping kit to replace the hinged bases that it came with. Weaver #45 and #46 as has been mentioned in this thread and some burris rings. This is as close as I can get the points before any lapping. It seems a little far apart at about 1/8th of an inch. Almost too far for lapping to be the solution. Am I missing something here?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Were that my Husqvarna, I'd be looking at Burrris Signature rings. The offset inserts will accomodate the mis-alignment no problem.
And no ring marks on your scope tube.

The second and less desirable choice would be to shim the base.

Are you sure the rear is the correct base?.

WOW just found this thread lot of interesting Husqvarna's pics posted and great info.

Here is my Husqvarna story.

Appr 50 years ago my grandfather (my mom's dad) gave my dad a Husqvarna rifle chambered in 270 Weatherby serial #224***A.

I shot my first moose and a dozen or so deer with it but then out of the blue maybe 35 years ago my grandfather requested it back in exchange he gave us 4 other rifles two were made in Germany Voere action rifles called Black Forest they were made in Yakima Wash. chambered in 243 & 308 Norma Mag the other two were Ruger M77 tang safeties in 30-06 and 300 Win mag.

Fast forward to appr 2007 just 1 year before my grandfather died at 94 he called me up and told me to get over to his place when I walked in the door he had my old 270 Weatherby in a case a bunch of factory ammo and boxes of new Weatherby brass to take home with me.

I scoped it with a 30+ year old Vari X 11 3-9X loaded up some 140gr TSX @ 3250fps and promptly shot 2 more deer with it I then gave it to my older son who is now 30 years old.

Sept of this year my son and his wife were given an opportunity for her to get her masters degree in a Michigan University all expenses paid so all the guns my son had came to me.

I was rooting around his safe last week pulled out my old Husqvarna, I also found another Husqvarna I only glanced at it though its a Featherweight or something like that in 30-06 that his mom's dad recently gave him.

I'm told Grandpa had bought it new in the Prince George, BC area back in the 60's hunted a couple of times with it then slipped it in the closet I'm betting he barely shot over one box of bullets from it.

Here is a cell pic I took last week of my 270 Wby from what I found out over the last week cause I never looked before is it is a model 3000 crown grade built in late 1958 or early 1959.

I have decided to revive it modernize it if you will and now I see after reading this entire thread I may be pulling off a little sacrilege because I have decided to restock it with a McMillan aftermarket stock that I bought off a fellow on the EE yesterday I also bought a Leupold VX2 4-12X40mm AO LR reticle scope off the EE earlier in the week for it.

When I checked the serial number I realized that I was born within months of this old gun being made so I figured like me its in fairly good shape I'm going to fix it up and start hunting with it again.

It has a bit of bluing rubbed off at the muzzle giving it a gray look what hair I have left is graying so I had decided to leave the original bluing alone.

Reason I decided to go for the aftermarket stock is once again like me I don't wear 1960-70's hunting clothes I wear the best modern stuff I can afford.

My plan is to also refinish/glass bed the original stock so I can pop it back on when I have the urge to hunt wearing my old wool red/black checkered hunting jacket and wool pants again going to go buy one of those old red/black checkered hats with ear flaps as well.

The rear base should be a #55, not 45. Change that and head out to the range! :)

Ted

Thanks for the advice now I feel like a tool haha! I could have sworn I needed a #45 and even went back a few times looking for it because they were out of stock.
Cheers!

Camp Cook,
Nice story you have there.
Actually, I never hunted with the red and black wool suits, but I still use my HVAs in their original dresses :)
The S/N brings it first half of 1958 production, and yes, it's a 3000 "Crown Grade".
Personally, I don't see any sacrilege in modifying a HVA rifle as long as it keep it going to the field, a lot of them were already modified and in Sweden, there was a big bunch of aftermaket stuff you can use on your 1640/1600.
Enjoying your grandfather's choice is unvaluable.

Baribal I finally had time to dig out my son's Husqvarna Vapinbriks AB US in 30-06 serial #204*** that his grandfather (his mom's dad) gave him a couple of years ago.

I'd appreciate it if you could dig up the year it was made or any other info you can find on it.

Thanks
CC

Thank you.

Its in excellent shape I'll try and post a pic when I have time.

I also saw that it is drilled and tapped for a scope may have to find a 2 piece base and scope it as a present for my son.

or it could be for me so he will use his own rifles when he comes home and quits grabbing one of mmine.

as to my 270 Wby the new VX2 4-12X40mm LR reticle scope arrived earlier in the week and the new stock arrived yesterday.

Mounted the scope in the original rings but had to swap the rings cause they set the scope back to far fortunately I had a spare set of the proper ones sitting on the shelf

Other than the barrel is not free floated = I will glass bed it I was surprised how perfectly the McMillan stock fit.

Its ready to go for now hopefully I'll find the time this afternoon to get to the gun club to zero it all in and I really hope it groups with the barrel touching the stock.

edit to add:

I made it to the gun club this afternoon have the rifle zeroed @ 200 yards only took 6 shots...

I forgot how much I liked this old classic.

You got that right...

I'm heading out for the week Monday morning for moose/whitetail/mule deer was going to take either my newer stainless Rem 700 LSS in 300RUM or 375RUM they are staying at home now and the old girl is going with me.

Only change I am now going to do to it is I really do not like the black stock thinking of sending it to the local Cerakote finisher and have him coat the stock in a OD green colour with a little bit of black webbing I scored the stock new in this colour for a super price = why it is black.

I've even been thinking about my son's 1956 Husqvarna in 30-06 that he got from his granddad it has never had a scope mounted on it before.

I want to get 2 piece scope bases/rings would mount the old Vari X 11 3-9X40mm scope onto it that I took off the above 270 Wby or a Vari X 11 2-7X33mm gloss scope I have on a 45-70.

Its a light weight rifle = I wonder if Talley makes lightweight matte rings/bases for it?

It's the same as a Small Ring Mauser 96.
I think the product code is # 252722. Just call them they should be able to guide you.

I found your # for the bases thinking of going with the one piece 1" Lightweight Alloy Scope Mounts though now to figure out if I need low #930722 or medium rings #940722.

Guess I need to contact them to figure it out.

Thanks Baribal I had no idea what model the old gun was.

Here is gem to add to my fixing up my old 270 Wby story.

Yesterday I told my 80 year old dad who hasn't hunted in almost 20 years that I was fixing up the old 270 Wby.

I couldn't believe it he got totally excited wants to go hunting with me so he can shoot/hunt with his old gun.

Now if that ain't a gem I don't know what is.

Not only is the old gun coming out of retirement so is the guy that taught me how to hunt = Awesome...
