Hello fellow cgners, just wanted to get some info from you guys.

Have any of ou bought from this vendor called pratical performance? Apparantly they have some 10/30 and 10/20 pistol mags that are lanced instead of rivetted.

Thanks

Do a search....unless all the old threads have been deleted lol
Short story is the mags are not likely going to be considered pistol mags as they use standard 30 round mag bodies which are only really designed for rifles.
If you want to test that out go ahead and buy a bunch....but don't discuss on CGN as it has already been debated to death!

Well the company seems to still be selling them and the RCMP hasn't shut them down yet. I've formulated my own opinion already and was curious to see what BBB thought. I'm fully aware there have been threads discussing magazine capacity issues and various controversial products. The law is quite clear and if these mags fit within, then they are perfectly OK. Following your logic regarding the 30rnd body size, other hicap pistol mags that are limited after the fact should be a no go too.

What other mags are full size pinned to 10?
Legality aside, they are the same price as 2 legal short mags and a couple.... So still makes no sense.

Ok...I'll lay it out as I see it. A magazine manufacturer (ASC) makes a full size pistol magazine for the LAR-15 pistol, marks it as such and then permanently limits the capacity for our market. If the magazine is designed from the ground up as a pistol magazine, it's good to go.

Tell me how this is different than any other high capacity pistol magazine, that is limited after the fact. For example, a 33 rnd Glock magazine.

As for the magazine coupler solution, some people don't want to flip mags around as part of a drill. if they are joined bottom to bottom, you can't shoot using the mag for support. Any side by side couplers are useless in magazine pouches.

100% correct

I had some before... Questions of legality aside, mine ran fine; those my friend and brother in law bought were not great. Their crimp was at just 10 rounds, and couldn't seat on a closed bolt.

Save a few more pennies and buy metal 5/10 Beowulf mags... You'll wind up there anyway. Save yourself a little money and a lot of aggravation over the long run.

If only those Beowulf mags were readily available at a decent price. I like the prospect of legally shooting higher capacity magazines, but forking over that much cash really gets me when I think of how cheap a metal AR mag actually is.

I bought one to try it out, it's a good quality mag, runs flawless in my rifles. Two things I don't like, the high cost and the crimped mag body, if for some reason you ever need to remove or replace the follower it is to do so without damaging it. I'd recommend just buying the normal 10rd LAR mags.

Your money, your guns, don't come crying back on here when you lose them all. It's already been stated in previous threads so read up. If you think other large and legit dealers haven't tried that route in the last 10 years, and these fly by night yahoos just managed to pull it off....again good luck.

And that would be my reason to avoid these as well....that they are crimped AFTER they are fully assembled 30 round mags makes it difficult to argue they were originally designed as pistol mags....

Lol! OK. Thanks for the warning!

Magazine capacity has nothing to do with what the magazine is designed for. Many, many magazines come into this country that are limited after they were originally assembled. Like I said in my previous example, there are Glock 33 round magazines that are limited to 10 rounds with a rivet. When they left the factory at Glock, they sure as hell weren't pinned. Someone pinned them and then imported them.

What would you say about the magazine in the picture below? It's a purpose built pistol magazine, inherently limited to 10 rounds by the size of it's body. Is it illegal?

I agree, but I hate to say that If you're competing the extra 4 rounds make them worth three LAR mags...

If you're plinking, maybe not so much.
