How Durable is the VZ58 AR Magwell Adapter?

Just wondering because it looks like polymer to me, which is quite durable and strong. But I don't know how well it would hold up to abuse, like being dropped on the ground accidentally while out coyote hunting. It would just be annoying to have happen so I want to know ahead of time if this is worth it or not. I want a VZ58, but there is too small a selection of 7.62x39. I don't want to shoot corrosive, surplus ammunition. .223 is cheap and plentiful and I think the AR mags would probably be better mags than the plastic .223 mags that come with a .223 VZ58. So that's why I'm wondering.

Any feedback?

Also, do PMAGS work in Vz 58's with the magwell adapter? Thanks!

IMO the quality of the polymer in the adaptor is superior to the quality of the plastic used in the factory mags and ive had luck with gen 3 pmags and gray lar mags and also d&h mags.

P.S. ya it can take abuse I don't baby mine

I've heard the polymer beowulf mags don't work in the adapter, is this true ? You need to get the metal ones ?

Dropping it on the ground would probably be ok, though not recommended... Concrete pads at the range can be hard on plastic, but you have to be pretty unlucky to hit the magwell...

My Gen 1 and Gen 2 P-mags do not work in my Vz 58 with AR magwell adapter. GI magazines work. The best magazine I had that always worked was a Chinese made all steal magazine including follower. Last round bolt hold open always worked, easy to insert. The next best mag that worked was the USGI aluminum magazine but once the follower wore out, the last round bolt hold open no longer worked. What I mean by worn out is over time the bolt hold open catch likes to rip a bit of plastic off the follower. Some USGI magazines followers were looser than others and had a tendency to actually jump over the last round bolt hold open. Both of my Lar-15 magazines did this. One of them stopped doing it once I replaced the follower for a magpul follower. Some magazines also didn't want to insert unless the bolt was open. You can imagine how much of a pain in the ass that would be if the last round bolt old open doesn't always work. With only one magazine that worked decently, I eventually had enough and switched it back to original. The original magazines will always work. They will always feed the gun and they will always hold the bolt open on the last round. Even if the magazine is plastic, I feel it is the better choice. If only they would come out with aluminum magazines for it. That would be cool.

I still have the magwell. I though about giving it another chance but I also though about just trading it for an original magazine.

I have one with and one without the adapter and personally I like the one with the adapter.better mag feed, better mag drop, loves my lar mags.for some reasone I've had terrible luck with csa mags.

was there any issues with the gen 1 mag adaptors? im having feeding issues with mine.

I had the Gen 1 magwell adapter and It had problems with FTE on the second round every once in awhile. It was enough that I couldn't rely on the rifle and shooting it became unpleasant . I also had the magwell partially become unseated and tilt out of the receiver due to a faulty adapter catch I switched to LAR 15 mags and it's 90 % reliable now. I just make sure to hold onto the mag and add some resistance to it. Not really ideal but I do have a Gen 2 in a bag that I'll install one of these days.

im experiencing feed troubles with my gen2. The mags dont seem to seat high enough into the adaptor. when a round gets pushed forward by the bolt it hits the flat face of the barrel or hangs up on the ridge right before the barrel. this most often pushes the bullet back into the case. not good. not sure whats going on here. anyone experience the same thing. this happens most often with 30/5 round GI mags. The LAR 15 mags work better for some reason.

I see how that can happen. When I cycle my bolt slowly by hand it does this. It has never done this while firing. Mind you without the adaptor and CSA mags things don't run that smooth when cycling slowly either. Probably have about 400 rounds through it now with not one jam. Mine is 7.62x39 and I'm using 10 round xcr pistol mags.

the original design was made for use with 7.62 in an extreme environment. By adding a smaller caliber the feed geometry is changed and then by adding flimsy plastic in the way of an adapter or the original mag a recipe for failure is created. 2 suggestions, wait for a metal or aluminum adapter or wait for proprietary metal mags, I waited 3 years and it never happened, how long can you wait?

Please explain...from what I understand CSA designed this adaptor for .223. There is another thread where a response was given from CSA that another member here posted stating exactly this and that it would not work with 7.62. Although mine works perfect with 7.62. What do you refer to as the original design?
CSA says that these adaptors will not work with plastic mags therefore we shouldn't be complaining about poor function when using them. The whole idea is to be able to fire 10 rounds. Why are we running 5/30's?

I have a csa magwell adapter and I think its a piece of crap. it falls out of the gun when you shoot it. not worth the hassle for me. I have seen an aluminum one, b&t maybe? that one might be a bit better. lots of people seem to have success with the csa but that's just my experience.

That's crappy... There is no way mine is coming out. It snaps in just I me a vz mag and there is no way it is coming out on its own. The release is very tough to release by hand.

From the intel I've gathered the B&T won't function correctly with 5.56 rifles.
