Favorite forgotten cartridges making a comeback

32-20 with Speer personal defense 60 grain HP is the ultimate gopher gun IMO. I'll put it up against a 17 HMR for destructive results anytime. Sometimes the remnants are scattered for a 3-4' radius all around where the gopher used to be... simply must be seen to be believed. Trumps a 22 Hornet quite handily too I might add.

I have a 25-303 improved from Epps on a P14 action, same load as 257 improved, very potent but a heavy bush gun.

Hmmm. I really wasn't thinking wildcats when I started this thread, more like factory ammo which disappeared for a while then started making a comeback.

But its really neat to hear from shooters still using these wildcats. Even better if pics of the rifles were posted along with some sample cartridge pics.

Maybe the mods need to create a 'Show Us Your Wildcat Builds' sticky... Or a Wildcat subforum???

7mm-08.

I wouldn't say that it was ever "forgotten", but it really seemed to be getting overlooked and fading in popularity for some time. In the last couple years, however, it seems to be enjoying something of a revival.

Amen to that. I have also acquired a deep respect for this fine little cartridge. I don't miss my old 22 Hornet at all.

On that same note, I run my spent 32-20 brass through a 30 Carbine resizer die, drop 3.2 grains of Trail Boss, and top with a 100 grain lead wadcutter... and run them with extreme accuracy out of my Swiss 1882 revolver. 900 fps of target fun. I am destined to revive the 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance. :)

BTW, where did you source the Speer 60gr HP?

8X63 Swedish - didn't even think of that! I think its comeback came about 10 years ago and ended about five years ago when the ammo sold out.

It's a useful round - essentially an 8mm-06 AI. Some day I'll hunt with it.

I'll nominate the 9x57 since no one else has. I've got 3 mauser 98s in that cartridge. How about the 8x50R Austrian? Nice round in the model 95 straight pull action. I also like my Remington 721 in 300 H&H too.

I know a fellow who has 10 boxes of Kynoch 9x57 kicking around. He said he'd sell it, but I think he wanted something like $50/box.

I am with the others on the 250 Savage. Firearm manufacturers should be chambering scaled down firearms for women and junior shooters in this caliber. Very accurate and mild recoiling cartridge.
