Decisions decisions !

Magwedge might still make a bolt tool.... Sfrc has a gas cylinder wrench, brownels for vices, clymer reamers and headspace gauges, throat and muzzle guages ect... Kuhnhaussen manual for bedding fixtures and such but you have to make em. And yomamma had some nifty bolt roller greasers a while back...

Thanks for the info Thomas….too bad I can't find what I need in one "store" instead of making multiple stops(damn I'm getting lazy and we're talking about buying stuff online:))

leonard….she looks real nice! There are some decent Norc's out there and it helps when you can hand pick them. Get lots of Norc ammo and blast away….this will tell you if you not only have a looker but also a shooter.

I started off with a NorcM305 18.5" and ended up with a SA SOCOM16.

How tight is the fit of the op. rod guide and the gas lock?

Now you have to get out there and dirty that old girl up ;)

it was not ideally tight from what i've read.
it did not tighten up alot until it was a few mm/cm over the hole.
I may need to shim it or something.

Knowing a few of the big guys are following this thread.

I would like for them to add or make a new thread( for sticky purposes ) with Part replacement recommendations for building up a Norinco M14/M305 , And even possibly other M14 brand rifles as a check list of what you will likely change out or check if need to do so.

Where to get the parts generally online or otherwise with preference of online since were online in this forum.

Things to check when you first get the rifle.

What Scope mounts/rail's are best to buy/ work best

And other things they can think of to add to initial buy lists.

It has become very obvious to me at-least in my visit to Edmonton to the major gun dealers in EDM . that these parts just cant be picked up.

Their is a-lot of stickies on how to do's but not may as a modern build-list for Canadians.

Perhaps Do a
Quick and dirty your going to need these parts.
and then
a You may need these parts if your gun does this thing.

and these are things you may or may not want later in time depending if you want this ! .

sorry for being random but i think something like that might be great for a sticky. and eliminate more threads such as mine.

we definitely need more and better sticky's in this forum i wish i was a expert cuz id do it myself.

Oh and Dude add 2.25 Inches to that barrel and id own one atm.

I wonder if SA knows how many sales they are missing over those 2.25"

I had no plans of getting back into the Restricted Rifle (again) due to their restrictions. In the end I decided I'd rather have one restricted than not have one at all.
Adding 2.25" will make this rifle a SOCOM18.5:)…..I think SA makes a Scout version with a bbl length @ 18" (also Restricted IIRC). So yah SA probably limited their Canadian sales with these two models.
I know my SOCOM16 will see action at every approved range I visit…..

Its crazy how allllll of these $2000- $3500 semi auto guns have such a hard time reaching 1 moa to sub moa ..... when $1800 could pretty much guarantee you a sub MOA AR platform rifle.... lol

You may have a point here as my sub $2000 AR was capable of shooting very impressive tight groups even with me behind the trigger:).
I don't want to turn this thread into an AR15 vs M14 contest but personally my SOCOM16 puts a bigger smile on my face every time I pull the trigger. My Norc305 shorty provided similar affects.
Besides, if all I wanted to do is shoot tight groups I'll take out my sub $1000 bolt every time….heck, even my $300 .22lr bolt can hang with the big boys for accuracy….but I digress.

Always dreamed of owning a Springfield M1A rig.
Budget at the time had me go the M305 route, picked up for just under 500$
After couple of runs in the bush, decided to sell and save for an M1A.
Went through IRUNGUNS per Cdn website and picked up a Standard, 1773.00$ all in after taxes. (was on sale 100$ off).
Haven't looked back since.
After handling both, starting with the M305, you notice the differences, and the differences lean towards the M1A as per personal taste.
Not a bad thing to handle both if budget allows, easier to make a decision.
Since then,
the Sadlak M14 Airborne Scope mount is on,
Archangel stock,
Israeli MEPROLIGHT M21,
VTAC Bungee two point sling,
And I'm happier than a clam.

Be advised though, tinkering and upgrading is like tattoos. You go with one, your're already adjusting the next payday's harvest to continue to the next before the first has even been unboxed or inked on. LOL.

Either way you go, its a learning experience. Familiarizing yourself especially with the internals of your rifle as you add and take away from her is just knowledge and experience in your pocket, which will influence and evolve your personal taste as a shooter in the future.

Best of luck and above all, enjoy yourself!

What do you guys think is better to buy.
http://www.m14.ca/M14_M1A_BLACK_ARRROW_ORSG.html

or

http://treelinem14.com/M14-M1A-Sadl...d-TreelineM14-CS-Spring-Bundle-M14SGSADBU.htm
or the many other variations of that package.
just the guide/spring + guide /spring + Guide + GAS PISTON / guide + gas piston ( i think these are tin coated?) / there is a bunch of different options there.

I will likely be buying a stock from http://treelinem14.com/ either way so if their spring guide is better than m14.ca's version then i can likely combine shipping.

can anyone think of any other must buy's while i'm combining orders?

I've become a big fan of the Black Arrow myself, though the Sadlak is certainly top notch, there's really no way you could go wrong with either one. One thing though, the Sadlak one is larger than the Chinese springs, so you'll want to get a new spring if you order one of those.

Aside from the op-rod-spring-guide there aren't really any "replace by default" parts on the Norcs - you kind of have to just see what's not optimal and replace as you see fit (if at all). Rear sights used to be "replace by default" but they've been getting better lately so test yours and make sure they elevate and traverse properly (max out each direction a half dozen times or so and return to zero) - if so, and if they don't shift under recoil, then they're probably good to go. If I were in your shoes and hadn't put a few hundred rounds through it yet to shake it out and see how it performs off the bench, the only things I'd order right off the bat would be an op-rod-spring-guide (and spring, if you go Sadlak) and whichever stock you take a fancy to. The cold winter months will give you time to put a few coats of tung oil on the stock and get it all pretty for spring. If you think you may need a new rear sight, go with USGI or Beretta (garand sights) from Treeline.

I have bought quite a few items from M14.ca including the op rod spring guide. I am very happy with all thier products and glad to be able to spend some money in Canada. Have been pleased with everything I purchased from Treeline as well so you can't go wrong with either choice. Don't forget the shims if your gas cylinder is loose otherwise as Pop says shoot it for awhile before spending a lot of money on accessories.

I will likely buy the scope rail from M14.ca
To me it looks like a much stronger and cleaner looking rail then the other type offered.

Lol the shimS!!! i just emailed Treeline to see if they can add those to my order.

I ordered a M14E2 M14A1 Birch Wood stock , A M14 M1A USGI Solid Handguard ,M14 M1A Sadlak NM Spring Guide and TreelineM14 CS Spring Bundle and hopefully they can add those shims in there .

so far around 800$ into the rifle haven't even shot it yet haha.

Im not sure aesthetics like a wood stock and handguards should count tho :p.

I'd also add some spare parts to your Treeline order. I'm thinking an extractor, ejector, springs and a firing pin. These can also go on a US rifle if you ever upgrade.

You'll need that E2 rubber but pad or you'll be pulling birch splinters out of your hide.

I have 4 AR rifles including an Armalite built to NM specs. I like to shoot them hate to clean them. There is just something about the M14 platform. If you don't get it you just don't.

wont the stock butpad work with that seafury? it looks like it should.
the rubber pad looks like it just replaces the stock but plate.

either way worst case scenario i have to make a second order.
I mostly wanted to get the stock before they run out since the others were all gone already.
Ill likely refinish this stock if the wood grains are not showing well.

I cant take a AR(15) out to my family farm and shoot coyotes or gophers with it legally either though .
I cant take a AR(15) out hunting typically either.

And i've seen a few videos with the m14 was outshining a AR10 platform

I would rather have a 1500-2000$ Non restricted Semi Battle rifle over a 1000-2000$ restricted AR any day of the week.
80% of my shooting is not at a range.
Then again not everyone has a Family farm they can go shoot 500-800M on with no other people bothering them either.
I can take a damn ATV to go pick up or look at my targets lol:p.
