Sold a 10/22, buyer says it's too inaccurate- RESOVLED! Post 88

His mods, his problem.
You sold it to him in a factory configuration.
You have no obligation once he modified the rifle.
You should indicate that to him and wish him luck with it in the future.
just mho...

I wouldn't do anything for the buyer...he bought used and he modified, also sounds like he doesn't have a lot of experience...you've up held your obligation as a seller, nothing else is required

This guy buys a used gun and then mods it. I don't even know why you're still talking to him? And people say refund it? Hell no, the gun worked, he ####ed it. This is not Canadian Tire or Wal Mart who take back old tools for free new ones.

A half dozen types of ammo may not be enough either. However, 'too inaccurate' isn't a viable reason to return any kind of firearm.
As mentioned, there's absolutely no way that barrel is shot out.

Im waiting to hear back from him today, explained to him how the tension ring works,so he will give that a try and see.
He has been very polite, and at this moment I am crossing my fingers that he can get it working more to his satisfaction. I know I would be frustrated if I had bought a gun and wasn't satisfied with how it was working, so I want to help him as best I can.
Thanks again to all that are offering help and suggestions!

Heard back from him. He took it to a smith today who took a look at it, re-tightened the screw on the face of the receiver, as it had worked its way a bit loose apparently from assembly/dis assembly, bore sighted it, and now its all good, getting 25/25 shots in a 2 inch group. Buyers happy, I'm really relieved and its all worked out now.
Thanks again to everyone!

A happy ending. No extra charge

That's great news..

Good for you to help the buyer out as you did! Regardless that this is EE, that is a nice example of how to treat someone who has entrusted their money to you...and how we would all like to be treated if in the same circumstance.

He would have saved himself the cost of a smith if he had just read the manual lol
Kudos on keeping a cool head and seeing the deal to the very end

IIRC - when I bought my 10/22 TD, there was a separate sheet included that had the instructions for proper adjustment of the take down adjustment collar. Don`t think it contained any information about a screw on the receiver. I`m going to check mine now :)

Not sure about that...I don't see where that is mentioned in the manual.

Not calling you out, but if there is a more comprehensive manual, I would like to get my hands on a copy.

Glad to read that it worked out fine, it seems that the buyer learned something new about his rifle to make it shoot properly.

There's no excuse for ignorance, its called the internet, the manual or call Ruger.

MM

If the guy was nice about no reason to get mad. I don't have much experience with gun maintenance and a seller helped he out on my first purchase. Very patient and helpful. I made sure that was reflected in my transaction record. This forum is all about educating and helping each other. Nice work 1000yard. Helped out another shooter and made a sale at the same time.
